As A Child I Had EXTREME Sleep Paralysis & Nightmares?

Hi I'd like to talk about my experiances as a child with dreaming and wondering if it's normal?

Recently I've been reading further into SP and their side effects, so to speak. I now understand the experiances I had. When I say child I mean 5-9... I'm 16 now.

I remember these vividly - when I started to have dreams that were later into the night, in my dreams I woke up in my bed in the dream got out and started to speak to a dream freind under my bed who was a crocodile. He asked me what type of dream I wanted.. Action, adventure etc.. However if he wasn't in a good mood he sent me down stairs to where if I didn't scream load enough I was forced to spend the rest of the night in a nightmare...
These nightmares came in differant strengths. For instance the worst one I had that still scares me was when I was being tortured.. I could feel all the pain. I kept screaming, I was in. Y dream yet I was a me to control my real. Key at the same time. I sat up tryi g to force my eyes open but they were undoubtably stuck.. Paralysed.. I smashed my elbow against my wall as hard as I could which sent a nerv all around my body and woke me up... Is this in any way usual ? I no longer have anything like this although a couple of years ago I did have a dream like the ones where I got out of my to ask the croc, but the crocodile was wry old and covered In spider webs... So yeah that's pretty much it...

Oh yeah I did once wake up from a nightmare looking at the end of my bed and seeing a dark figure reaching I to my stomach, which then flew away. Hallucinations perhaps?

What are your views on this... ?
sorry for any spelling mistakes, my phones really messed at the moment

I believe it is unfortunately very normal to have nightmares as a child which are worse than those of grown ups. I had some very bad nightmares too, including recurring ones, but I don't remember most of them any more - just that I had them. My worst nightmares that I still remember we're mostly about skiing out of control at high speed up and down mountains and up and down stairs.

My older son when he was 6 for a while was scared of the dark and of falling asleep because of sleep paralysis issues or dreams of being paralyzed (I don't know which) and menacing ghosts or robots.

I think a child who has more imagination may have more imaginative (worse) nightmares. And since anything is possible in a dream, and there are no "normal" dreams (normal is different for different people), so I think there are no hard and fast rules about nightmares of kids either.

Childhood nightmares can be really bad. I still remember one of my recurring ones. Used to wake up in terror and scream, till my dad came and switched bed with me, so I can sleep in moms bed.

Sheesh, I just spooked myself and had to RC.

As a little child I used to have nightmares sometimes and I also had lucid dreams.

I used to have really bad SP, it plagued me, and the only way to prevent it would be to jiggle, and wiggle myself to sleep, the only way to break out of the SP would be to move my toe. Also had the SP where I could feel stuff, at the time I interpreted it as an "evil" force/person. I didn't have a crocodile who would assist me in dreaming, but I did have an Irish GI Joe soldier I loved to play with during the day, I would meet him in dreaming and then become lucid. When I was little, I remember how vivid it felt, even the flying, the wind, warmth of the sun, etc.(even pain I would wake up still sore in the spot injured during the nightmare).

With the shadow, hey, it does happen during a SP episode on occasion or perhaps varies by person. I believe they are called Hypnogogic Hallucinations, you can interact with it just like a DC. Which can be cool, if it's scary you can tell it to go away, it will. I'm one of those persons who although super scared, my curiosity gets the best of me, so after a few years of being terrorized and finally learning how to break free, I decided to investigate. If that's not your style, that's cool. but if it helps any, I've found that on the nights of intense SP, that's it's easier to LD as well. Also, I've found that relaxing through the SP makes it an easier transition from SP to LD, if it helps any.
