Hello all I'm conducting an experiment and it would be great if everyone could assist by taking a quick poll.
I want to know how often people notice any form of text in their normal dreams. This can be anywhere you see words or numbers in any form.
The % numbers in the poll signify the % of normal dreams (that you remember) where you have noticed text compared to your overall number of dreams.
Also, if you have seen text in a dream did it appear normal?

I almost never see text in my dreams, but when I do it looks normal, even though I had read before that it tends to be distorted.
Though I don't see much text while dreaming, it's pretty normal text.
Does the text look normal. I had a LD once where I looked at a number plate on a door (like you would see on a hotel room door) and it read something like FFUUE. When I looked away and looked back it was FUU.Quote:

When I read recognizable letters it generally does make sense, at least, I "gather meaning" from it. Probably some of the time it's actual reading, sometimes I'm just filling in the meaning. Just last night I read an ingredients list on a bag of chips that included 2 words and a picture of a curly hot pepper, I recall it as being: "corn", <picture>, "oil".Quote:

All the time. I can even text people without noticing any words being... weird.
Selected the 31-70 answer although my 10 day sample showed 8/10 days had some text (presentation, magazines, shampoo, txt on t-shirt, phone, essay, dream journal, food chain)
Edit: Oh, and I didn't stare or examine the texts for long. They looked normal (or I assumed they did). I did have difficulty navigating on the phone and calling other people instead of the ones I was looking for, which should have tipped me off.:P
I do sometimes. But when I see them, they go all scattered like there are mixed in.
Yea I see them quite often and contrary to some others who always seem to see text scrambled in a dream, I can clearly read what it says.
If it is a single word or logo it will look pretty normal but if more than one, it is hard to read.
Thing is, the times I go lucid now is when I see writing and not so much a logo.
I will think, "Oh so I am dreaming, I MUST interpret this writing!" But then I wake up and forget what it said.
With logos, one was a sign for a store called DOTS (defunct clothing store) and another one was a bumper sticker on my car that said only "Lingerie".
Text used to be quite difficult to read when I was younger. But as I've gotten older, text and numbers have become clearer. Not quite sure why that is, maybe I've just gotten better at visualizing text in my mind. Now I can read pages of text quite easily in my dreams but I find that I still struggle a little bit with reading numbers or complex equations.
I heard it in the podcasts before - RareCola said, it is not a problem - it works as a RC partly because you expect it to work, and in the moment you do a RC - you already know, that you are lucid.Quote:

One time - asking for an answer in the context of a TOTM - I got a piece of paper with clear writing - I could read it as in read it out loud, but didn't understand the language.
The woman who wrote it as an answer for me said - once I learn that language, I'll know the answer to the question as well ..
I normally see text perfectly in my dreams, although sometimes it appears all mixed up as it was in a dream last night, I was reading a text message from someone called Freddie, I can't remember the contents of the text, but the text from field was all jumbled up with a mix of lower case letters, and upper case.
I often see text in dreams, and it is pretty normal. I've had a number of dreamviews dreams, including one of my nonlucids where I was posting to a thread saying that there is enough weirdness there that the probability of this being a dream is high, and yet I did not actually become lucid, just no lucidly dreamed of typing something like that.
the text RC of looking away and looking back expecting it to change has sometimes worked for me in lucid dreams, and sometimes failed.
At the moment, I can only recall two times that I've seen words/numbers in my dream. Once when I was looking at a calendar and another time is when I was messaging my friend on the computer. The text in both of the dreams looked normal from what I remember.
I often see text, and the words are real, however the sentences or word couplings don't make sense. For example I was reading a periodic table in one of my LD's and the elements were named things like "PirateCityum" "Rachnadabium" "Orange Eagle Man", etc.
Very often. Sometimes I see pages of text that I can read very well.
Most of the time I see text in my dreams very clearly, but as soon as I wake up I forget what I read which makes my ability pretty useless.
Any time I recognize it, it does always appear normal and clear. But a lot of the time its just a few words repeated over and over. However, as this continues I have realized I am able to read a lot more and hold it longer each time it happens
Yes, usually if I am exploring a new territory Ill take a book (there always seems to be one around) and open it to see if my mind has somehow created some genius novel LOL....it always has random words like ball, cat, church, peace, builder etc.
I see numbers every time I dream. But numbers are hugely significant in my life and profession. Numbers are often symbols to me, zip codes, actual time, millage on my car, etc. etc.
I always see numbers in a very demonstrative way, it's always clearly communicated to me.
Non-numeral text on the other hand, it's hard to say. For instance I had a dream the other day about a box of snacks called "NotyourCrackers". But it's hard to say if I actually saw the text or visualized a box with the name on it.
I don't typically see more than a word of text. Again, it's usually symbolic, like a street name or a person's name.
