      Struggling to Dream Again

As I wrote on here before, several years ago I had major brain surgery, and I remember having an
interesting couple of dreams at the hospital, and then when back home, but then not having many dreams at all after that.
In recent years I have had sometimes parts of dreams that I could remember, but I was still not remembering
whole dreams. Now, a couple nights ago I had a dream and during the night I could remember it all, but it
was not about anything interesting or important, and so I did not make any effort to remember it and so
I did not. I think that I will sleep with paper and pen near me when I sleep so if I have another
that is more interesting I can record it during the night before I forget it.

Before my operation I had some very interesting dreams, for most all of my life, and all this
inactivity as far as dreaming is concerned is not like me at all.

When she was alive my mother told me about her dream, when she was still living at home.
She dreamed that she was sleeping and all of a sudden a dwarf came in the room and circled her
bed waving a wand. Right then she had an out of body experience dream where she seemed to rise
to the ceiling and she could see herself below sleeping. Wow, I wish I could dream something like that.

I simply tell my self before I go to sleep that I want to remember my dreams, and I do. It always works!

I hope your surgery was successful.

I wrote up my approach to dream recall in the link below: have a look and try it out. By far the most important aspect is being excited about dream recall, knowing that you DO dream, and that with consistent (every night, every waking) effort, you can build your recall ever higher and higher.

Thank you both! My surgery, more than ten years ago now, was successful and
probably more successful that the doctors hoped for.

I do dream, but I wish to remember my whole dreams and hope to have
some more like the interesting ones that I used to have. Thank you!

I found my account of this dream that I had right after surgery. I have not had many dreams that I can totally remember.
In the dream I could not drive a car, or at least I was not allowed to so that is why we took a cab in the dream.

I dreamed that my wife and I took a cab to the home of a co-worker whose job was to give computer classes.
Of course, in real life these were not held in her home, but at work. Anyway we went and were given a nice meal there
and then there were computers set up in the family room of her house. It was a good class and then we were going to
call a cab, but her son was there and he graciously offered to take us home and so we let him.

A very few weeks went by and I got to start back to work after the operation and one day I met the lady again who gave
computer classes, and I told her my dream and we laughed and when I told her about her son taking us home...I
told her that I had no idea if she actually had a son. At that she got really serious and told me that she did have a
son and he was about the age of the person in my dream who drove us home. It was odd to me.
