Stuck against wall in awake state

      Hey,

I live in homeless facility, where we have breakfast always at 08:00 A.M. The cook yells "Come to eat!" during that time. So what happened, I looked at my phone and the time was (I think) 07:54 A.M., so I was like, okay I can still sleep for a moment, but then (I think) I was falling a sleep, when I suddenly rushed to the door to open it, so I could hear the cook yelling. I opened the door normally, but after that my body was falling towards wall and I couldn't move anywhere for few seconds, however it felt much longer, since it was quite shocking experience. Then I started thinking, why did that happen. I recalled in my mind this forum, since I made one post here during 2013 (if I remember correctly), can't remember my account name tho. So what happened?

Some of the reasons I think of are:
      * I was still partially in sleep when I went to open the door, since I jumped out of bed so fast
      * Yesterday when I went to sleep I was quite hungry
      * Maybe I was just so tired / didn't get enough sleep that it also affected my body
      * I usually put my eyeglasses on, before I do anything, but not this time, and yesterday I used contact lenses before I went to sleep

Please, if you have explanation, let me know. Is there specific term for this occurrence?

I think I still feel kinda clumsy / dizzy.

      ---

TL;DR Woke suddenly up, got stuck against wall in awake state for few seconds, then everything was normal again, what happened?

      I wish I knew.

Sounds like you had a great desire and intent to go to the door and get breakfast, because of force of habit and hunger. So perhaps you did fall back asleep for a bit and then sleepwalked?

Or you had something we call "false awakening". This can happen when you set your intent to do something, or you are doing some same action often. Like you set your intent to wake up at certain time and look at your clock to see if you need to get up - you may have a dream that you are actually doing that. Or you dream that you woke up. got up from bed in the morning and went about doing your usuall business. That's classic false awakening.

Or, you fell breefly asleep and you had HH - hypnogogic hallucination of you getting up and opening the door. HH are often about things we have intent to do in waking life. And in HH, sometimes it's hard to walk, or you feel like you are glued to the place.

Perhaps it was a lucid dream or out of body experience, in which you stood up from your body and walked to the door.

All these events can feel as real as waking life itself and they may feel like you actually did them. But they are pretty much impossible to confuse with real waking life event. So, I'm not sure what happened. Good luck to you!
