What did I do wrong?
this morning i felt so close to having my frist lucid. but i have o clue what happened. the whole night i felt like i was awake and i wasnt getting any sleep. i didnt ev en feel like i was getting tired. so at about 6 45 i said to myself 'what if im dreaming' and immediately did the nose plug rc. it worked and i felt the nice feeling in ur head, it just exploded in my head. i dont know why but my eyes wre closed after i did the rc when it was open before. after the nice feeling ended i opened my eyes. but everything was the same. i then did another rc and it didnt work so i realised i was awake. 15 mins later i had to wake up for school
what did i do wrong? was i not meant to open my eyes, or was it something else that i messed up.

It sounded like you lost the dream after you closed your eyes. If you close you eyes in a dream you tend to lose awareness of the dream itself which causes it to end.
-
if i didnt open my eyes would i just be able to see things after a while ( sorry ive never had a lucid before so i still dont have the experience)
-
You would be able to see things but only if you were imagining something or were otherwise focused on the dream itself.
-
I'm having a "for what it's worth" moment...
If you are already asleep and dreaming, then there are no eyes to open or close. If you are truly self-aware in a dream, it really doesn't matter what you do with your dream eyes -- they are, after all, not doing anything particularly physical.
Sorry, Dolphin, but you do not lose self-awareness by closing your DC eyes during a dream, but you do lose it by making a decision to do so, whether that decision was on purpose or not. This closing the eyes and losing lucidity thing really is a myth, but it is a myth made real by expectation -- expectation fueled by believing that the actions of your dream eyes have an influence on the dream itself.
Just sayin'...

I think it might be easy for some people to destabilize a dream by closing their eyes, though. Your brain expects it to be dark when you close your eyes, and I could easily see having trouble getting the lights turned back on!
This wouldn't be a universal experience, though. It's not usually true for me.
Supergang77, I wouldn't worry too much! You're doing great; your dream going wonky is normal when you first start lucid dreaming. Look up some tutorials on dream stabilization, and focus on that the next time you become lucid.
Personally, when things go dark in a dream, I like to focus on the texture of a surface that would appear wherever I want to be. That usually builds up a new location for me.

thanks guys. if i realised mid way it was just a dream and i was already asleep would it be a bad idea to still do an rc?
-
No, it's a good habit to get into. You might find that some RCs destabilize the dream when you're first starting out, so I would plan to always do an RC followed by a stabilization of some kind if you confirm that you're dreaming.
-
also, i think since it was my first time being so close i may have gotten too excited. i think that might have also snapped me out of the dream.
alright ty. its a good step this is the closen ive ever gotten to being lucid after months of practicing and it seems its finally starting to pay off. ive worked on my recall and i can recall atleast a dream a day now. now im this close im not gonna stop :p

ah, it happened again today. i had a bad dream and went to the mirror and looked at myself. i said what if its a dream and then did an rc and it worked. then a few seconds later i was awake withou even knowing it. i have no clue because i dont even remember closing my eyes this time :( this time i didnt even get that nice feeling in my head too
-
I know the nice feeling that you're talking about... a sudden awareness of everything around you.
Keep at it! You're doing fantastic, it's just tricky to learn to keep your focus in a dream. You're also waking up because lucid dreams tend to naturally occur when you're already rested (and therefore somewhat aware) so it's happening at the point where you're already likely to wake up.
Remember to RC when you wake up, too; this is a time when false awakenings are very likely to happen.

yeah i feel like ive just suddenly started improving now that my recall is actually ok now. thanks for the advice and yeah i should start doing rcs when i wake up my first nearly ld was from me having an fa

hello again. last night another weird thing happened to me. i woke up about 4-5 hrs later for a wbtb and stayed up for about 2 minutes. i then went back to sleep and got comfortable to do an ssild. but before i was even able to start, weird stuff started appearing in the blackness of my eyes. i looked at what it was and they where images. there were about 8 of them. they then vanished and one big image was all i could see. somehow, i ended p getting sucked up into that image but i couldn't do anything. i wasn't able to control myself or do anything at all, even just move. im guessing this was a wild, but i don't know why i wants able to do anything.
also, i don't even remember what i dreamed about, i gave up trying control anything and i don't remember anything afterwards.
