Lots of water

I was walking along a busy beach when I noticed the waves getting quicker and heavier. I panicked thinking it was a tidal wave so started shouting for everyone to get off the beach. The edge of the sand (where a promenade would be) was a glass/plastic barrier with doors. This barrier went the whole way along the beach. I continued to shout for people to get off the beach but no one would listen. I went through the doors and ended up in a large cinema. There were lots of 3D glasses on the floor. I climbed stairs to get a better seat to watch the film - only problem was there was rain fall in the cinema just in front of he cinema screen.

Can anyone help me with this one? Thank you.

Although in order to provide a more accurate interpretation it would usually be best to have some general background information about you (and a description of events just before the dream), looking at your other posts has helped to provide the context out of which the current dream has perhaps appeared.

Just to mention that there are generally no fixed interpretations for a given image in a dream and it’s always best to have the spontaneous memories, thoughts and feelings of the dreamer as related to each image and event. That way, an appropriate analysis is more likely.

However, having said that, there are some general symbolic motifs that can serve as a basic starting point.

For example, the ocean usually symbolizes the vast realm of the unconscious psyche with both its creative and destructive elements.

The beach with its more solid ground often signifies the ego and its everyday outlook, attitudes, beliefs, habits and so on.

In your dream, it probably only apparently looks like the unconscious mind could be about to deliver a devastating blow in the symbolic form of a tidal wave which, in a worst case scenario, could “wipe out” the ego and its overall standpoint, e.g. in a nervous breakdown.

That’s because dreams are very specific in how they picture events and in the dream, you take the presence of quicker and heavier waves as a definite sign for the imminent arrival of a tidal wave.

In actual fact, the first signs of “tidal waves” (also known as tsunamis) are often the arrival of rising tides at unusual times, hence their name.

Since in your dream, the tide doesn’t appear to be rising per se, it’s possible that the waves represent something more like a smaller rise in upsetting emotions or anxieties etc. and not a more serious issue.

This idea appears to be supported by the fact that no one bothers to heed your shouts that a tidal wave is coming.

The presence of the long barrier along the beach might point to a discomfort with some emotions, insights, impulses or other contents from your unconscious mind as symbolized by the ocean which in the dream for you appears threatening overall.
So it’s possible that you recently experienced something which stirred up an earlier and perhaps painful situation with accompanying unpleasant feelings.

You then leave the beach and go into a cinema which, depending on the dreamer’s actual attitude, can represent an escape from reality.

We all need escape and relaxation on a regular basis but it’s possible that the 3D glasses on the floor are hinting that maybe certain problems etc. as seen in the choppy waves outside aren’t being looked at closely enough in reality, i.e. in a “three dimensional way”.

In addition, you go up the stairs to a higher location to view the film, maybe hinting that you may understandably prefer to “rise above” certain ongoing annoying issues by largely trying to escape from them by instead viewing an artificial “show” from a high, more detached vantage point.

However, the dream appears to be showing that doing so might potentially lead to a certain depressing mood creeping up at times which spoils the show, e.g. the rain coming down through the roof and in front of the screen.

Your other dreams about the return, as it were, of your first boyfriend, might be trying to show some other clues about what may be going on under the surface and which could possibly be affecting your difficulty in finding another boyfriend with whom you feel secure.

Since you haven’t had any contact with your first boyfriend for over eight years and don’t feel anything for him at this time, it’s most likely that his image in the dream symbolizes a part of your own psyche.

This so-called “masculine” part of yourself was formed by the interactions you had with your father (or father substitute), male siblings, and the collective images of men as provided by your milieu.

Generally speaking, this inner figure likely involves your “mind” side, the intellect, reflection, meaning, spirituality, a sense of focus, opinions, beliefs, creativity, determination, spirit, assertiveness and action etc.

The dream about lying in bed with him in the room you had as a child (and knowing you didn’t want to be with him again) likely is showing that certain attitudes and beliefs etc. (especially regarding men) which were formed in your early childhood (and which were partly involved in your feelings of attraction for the outer person in the first place) still tend to be active inside yourself but you’re mostly unaware of them.

The more recent dreams about buying a house with your former boyfriend appear to be emphasizing that you indeed have a “strong connection” with this mostly unconscious set of mind-sets and beliefs etc.

If so, this state of affairs would tend to influence your initial choice of boyfriends even now (or at least greatly affect how you judge their long-term suitability) and it seems like the issue of fears over the long term permanence of any relationship has a habit of getting in the way of continuing the ongoing bond that exists early on.

Therefore, the current dream along with the previous ones appear to be encouraging you to look at your attitudes, assumptions, beliefs and so on which surround in general how you approach finding a suitable partner.
