Tidal waves

Hi All,

Every few weeks I usually have a dream of a tidal wave, it's usually non lucid and terrifying. The wave is miles high and I usually wake up before it hits me.
When ever it has hit me, I am never harmed for some reason. Last night I saw the usual massive wave heading towards us. I was in the living room of a house that doesn't exist just around the corner from me. I was with my family. I felt the usual terror and end of the world fear come over me. This one felt a little different than the rest. I stood up and said to my wife something along the lines of, I have dreamed of this day many times. It felt real. I said to her i'm going to pinch my nose (reality check) and hope this is a dream. I did and obviously I was dreaming. The relief was amazing. The wave hit still and I remember the windows turned blue like we were under water. The water dissipated and looked out to see a second wave coming. It was strange because I was lucid but still felt trapped to the dream. I wasn't in control. When this one passed I went outside and people were sat in lines on the ground, legs crossed like they were lining up for something. I wanted to get to the beach to stop the waves. I eventually got there and sat on the beach. I sat and looked down, where I thought the ocean bed would be. I told it in my mind to stop shifting and causing the tidal waves. I soon moved into another dream that was less scary and still somewhat lucid.

Has anyone else had these end of the world dreams? Especially where you remember dreaming about something and think it is now happening for real only for it to be a dream?

About 10 years ago I had many dreams about tidal waves, murky water waves, etc. I was not sure what they meant but at the time I was taking a course on creative dreaming and the professor explained that although dreams symbols are personal, there are a few that are universal, and water is one that often represents emotions. At the time I was going through a separation and so the tidal wave and murky water tidal wave dreams started to make sense to me. Today when I see water in my dreams I start to ask what is going on emotionally with me.

Yes - emotion, the Collective Unconscious, the Flood. End of the world, but as a clearing away to prepare for the creation of the new world - the world after the flood. People often are afraid because of the end of the world, because they lose sight of the fact that, even in the Biblical story, it was just a clearing away of the old to make way for the new. It represents the end of your old way of life, and the beginning of the new way. This is always what dreams of death and destruction refer to. It's incidentally also what the crucifixion and death of Jesus (and all the other resurrecting Gods) is about. Just like the symbolic death of winter or night, only to give way to spring or a new morning. When you have dreams like this it means you need to let go of the old ways that are no longer working, and accept the new. And if you keep having these dreams, it means you aren't learning the lessons yet, and you're stubbornly holding onto the old ways even as your life is changing and you need to change with it.

Tidal wave dreams? Too many times. They're my most common apocalypse- themed "nightmare". I mean, they're "scary", but nowadays when they happen I have lost the sense of fear. Now when they happen, I just point my hand at them as if in a lucid dream and stop them ( in an "epic" sense of way

). Maybe a subconsciouss reflection of my increased self-confidence perhaps. Happens with all my scare dreams, a punk comes up to me? I grab him by the neck, a nightmare ceature approaches me? I go hug him or meet him etc.

It sounds like that's a way of refusing the lessons of the unconscious - of refusing the call to grow and develop. I suppose that kind of response is ok when you're young, but in the '2nd half of life' as Jung likes to point out, you need to start accepting the lessons - submit yourself gracefully to them, and have the courage to undergo the cleansing of the flood, so you can ritually kill off your outworn older self-image and grow into the new one, the one that's properly oriented to the new reality of your life.

Though it sounds like hugging the monsters is the right response - that would be showing them loving kindness and integrating them into your personality so they no longer exist as split-off fragments that can continue to haunt your dreams. Though according to Jung, a better way is to converse with them - stand your ground and don't fight or flee or transform them through ego-based power, all of which are fear-based responses, but instead have a conversation. Ask them what they want of you and don't let them boss you around or intimidate you, but negotiate with them. Show them the same respect you want from them. Sometimes hugging or trying to absorb an unconscious content like that is the wrong thing to do.

I have also experienced a lot of tidal wave apocolypses.

I'm more into the multiverse and simulation conjecture, than Jung. So I expect it's a real experience, for someone ...

I generally just sit down, cross my legs, close my eyes, and wait for it to hit.
