Heh, I thought you DVers might like this. :)
Last night, I had an odd dream. I accepted the reality of the dream all the way through; in other words, not even a hint of lucidity. Still remarkable though.
I was seated in some kind of chair, perhaps rather like a dentist's, in a white room. I was about to have some kind of operation. A woman approached me. She was holding a large glass syringe. I lay back, slightly nervous (I don't think anybody finds injections fun :P); I was aware that I was about to be sent to sleep for this operation.
This is something I've wondered at before; what the experience of being forced into unconciousness is like.
Well, to be honest, it was weird, and the fact that I was in reality already asleep probably made it even weirder. I was engulfed by blackness, and I tried to fight the feeling of being 'turned off'; there was no element of fatigue. However, after five seconds or so I gave in. What happened next, or at least I think happened next, is one of those things where you just marvel at how amazing the brain is, and even though it is essentially ourselves, we have no idea how 'clever' it can be; it's like there's a whole other person inside us, and a smart one at that. Basically, to simulate a dreamless sleep, my brain did exactly that; the dream ended, and I was essentially unconcious. The incredible part is though, that after what could really have been any length of time, the dream booted up again; I was concious, albeit in a dream. I was awake, and the operation had been sucessful. :)
I think almost immediately after this I woke up; and that was that. If you've ever personally experienced being forced into a sleep under anesthetic, please say so; I've had dreams before which were accurate representations of experiences which I've never had before, and I'd like to know if this was one.

Indeed it is!
In probably one of the first of (i think) 7 or 8 times i had to get operated on my ears (ear tubes) The nurse never said "close your eyes, it gets wierd" ... and I was put to sleep with my eyes open, now for the description:
It looks like everything slows down, the colors of everything kind of swash mix and swirl together until it gets slowly darker and darker until you fall asleep.
Hope this answers what you were looking for.
----On a side note---- It was a mask not needle, but i asume it has the same effect.

Ive had dreams where I would go to sleep for one reason or another and then wake up within the same dream or just move on to a completely different dream.
A weird instance was in a dream I was talking about wanting a lucid dream and some fairy or pixy like thing flew into my vision and told me to go sleep and I will have a lucid dream. I excitedly went to sleep and in the next dream oddly enough I did become lucid.

I've went to sleep in a dream before, only to enter another dream. It's confusing. I have even dreamed while anestisized.

Once or twice I dreamt I was lying on a bed trying to fall asleep. But I couldn't. No way. I was so upset because I knew I had to wake up early and go to work. Then I don't remember what followed...
My mind was forcing me to sleep while I'd already been sleeping. Why?
