Hallucinations Before Sleep

I was just lying in bed with my head on the pillow slipping into sleep, when suddenly I felt like I was hit on the top of the head with something like flat side of a shovel. My body tensed up and my head jolted as though it was hit. I was in a state of confusion and shock for a few seconds. Once I realized what happened, I thought it was interesting, but didn't really try to find anything out about the occurrence. Now I am starting to wonder, is there a technical term for that sort of occurrence, and how often does something like that happen on average?
I would really like to hear about other peoples experiences with this kind of thing as well.

Sounds like hypnagogic imagery. These are images or sounds that come as impulses during the onset of a hallucinogenic state. Usually before or after sleep.

Yeah I got that aswell: I was letting my mind wander and all of a sudden I "saw" a friend of mine hitting my stomach violently and my whole body just jolted...crazy...

This is called a hypnic jerk. I get these all time - most of the time it's a tripping or falling sensation just before I fall asleep, and my whole body jerks and I wake up briefly.

How many seconds did it last?

Interresting hallucination: A Tactile one. prettyy rare to me.
But the time between Waking and Sleeping is very interresting indeed.

I've had quite intense and shocking hypnagogic hallucinations like that too. only Visual and Auditory.

After having told this you're all probably think I'm mentally WHEEEEE for a bit. And you're probably right:P but anyhow:

I was lying in bed on the fine line of being awake and falling asleep when, in the darkness of my closed eyes, I saw a friend of mine's Face from the left side. As if I was looking down on him while he lay on my bed and looked up to me. As he slowly turned his head so I could see the right side of his face I noticed it was covered in blood, wounded and bruised and his right eye looked all bloodshot. I got a Jolt of intense Emotional Fear, but then quickly urshered myself to chill and continue to fall asleep.

Another remarkable Hallucination was the same darkness in which I saw my Livingroom window overlooking my green garden Floating by my field of closed eye vision. It looked like bruight summersun shone through the foliage and leafs of trees and bushes in my garden.

Lately I have always had these strange short Hypnagogic Flashes and Impressions: usually Cigarette smoke gracefully floating upwards with warm ambient light on the background. Strange but reoccurring visual.

Anouther FREAKY freaky hallucination I had was Auditory. I was almost asleep and just not, I love that phase, when I suddenly heard my Sister's voice Cry near screaming: "No No No!" (Bad Childhood memories drifting back up again: I could swear that wasn't just a random cry of my sister: I'm DAMN sure it was something she actually once said and JUSt in that way.... Bizarre) I jumped right back up in bed being quite terryfied. But after a while I told myself it was hypnagogia and it couldn't possibly harm me here and went back to sleep.


This is Interresting. This Topic is therefor great :D Anyone else should share their Pre-sleep Hallucinations. I'm curious.

Before I fall asleep I have felt I was being chased by dogs, and tripping over barbed wire. I have felt myself be hit by a train.

this has happened to me also i try to cultivate them if i lie flat on my back with my eyes closed and either focus on one thing or let my mind wander i eventually get strange sensations of shrinking and growing larger and my visual field begins to warp this goes away i start to feel my heart beat faster i will experience brief flashes of imagery mostly like the other guy said ciggerate smoke or using a computer that look completely real this starts to happen more and more frequently until i see flashes of light much like when you push on your eyes i then feel as if I'm pysicly were somwere else i can feel my body in my bed and in waterer setting I'm seeing sometimes it looks completely real like the firs time it happened i was in my living room on my couch and my dad was sitting on a chair with a completely bland stare and dead eyes saying i know about the computer over and over it happened very suddenly and went on for about ten seconds before terrified i bolted up and felt extremely a fried that i was in a false awaking and that i would be attacked by a monster or something it looked extremely real exept for the far that overlaying everything were swirly patterns it has happened many times since then and the imegry has always been extremely disturbing i come back accompanied by intense fear there seems to be another type like earlier tonight it happened again exept this time everything was in rainbow colors
i was playing a game on my laptop when i saw o figure walk past my window everything looked cell shaded like a comic book i bolted back to reality with the same fear i try to have these on purpose despite the fear that acompenise them i believe they are a window into the darker side of the mind and whats strange is that my room is a strory above ground a just want to know if this happens to anyone else

I've experienced many of these sensations also, and have found many threads reporting similar experiences.

At least you know you're normal. :)
