      Deaf and Blind Dreams?

Okay, I don't know if we have any deaf or blind members, but this is something I was wondering about the other day. When deaf people dream, do their dreams have sound, or only images? And when blind people dream, do they dream only in sound? Because there would be no reason for it to be without sound or images. I assume it would be diffent with people who were born blind or deaf as opposed to people who became blind or deaf in later life. And if they have a lucid dream, could they force it to have sound or image?

      Lightbulb

Hmmm...Interesting. I might ask one of the blind people at my school that. I wonder...

Do color-blind people dream in color?
All the times when no one ever came to get me
All the nights when i was scared
And when it got to weird
It was the song that saved me

      Yes and no.

As for the blind, it all depends on the condition of your V1 visual cortex. If you are blind from birth or lose your vision before the age of 5, then no, you cannot experience the qualities of vision in dream. However, if you lose your eyesight (without actual damage to V1) after the age of 5 then yes you retain certain qualities of vision in dreams, though they are not nearly as vivid as what you or I would see because our cognitive models and neural networks that make up vision are constantly being refreshed and kept active during waking life. The age of 5 is particular because our V1 is fully developed by that age, so an interuption prior to maturity of the V1 would result in faulty vision.

Same pretty much goes for the auditory cortex and hearing in dreams.

      Hope that all made sense.

I am neither deaf or blind but it seems most of my dreams are more ideas, smells, touch and a little emotion with very vague but unspecific visuals while i honestly cant think of a dream where I had sound.
