Recalling 6-7 vivid dreams a night...but not anymore

Hello there lads and...damsels?

I've got to ask you for some help. Surely there must be countless threads with "help me with my recall", "my recall is horrific" and other such titles, but I've really gotta ask you for some insight, since this seems like more of a mental block than anything.

For the past few weeks my recall has been average, 2-3 dreams a night. There was the occassional night where I'd get that little nothing snippet that I just can't place, or no recall at all, but on the whole, average.

In the past week, there were nights I recalled as many as 6-7 dreams a night, those chain dreams alot of us have, where you wake up feeling oh so satisfied even if no lucidity results.

Keep in mind, I have nearly 0 memory of my first few REM periods, unless of course I wake after them, but I would still wake in the morning with loads of dreams to record.

Over the past few days, I have recorded a few dream "bits" but nothing like the 6-7 vivid dreams a night I was telling you about...

My friends, I have a few concerns, to make this a little bit more concise:

I have faint glimpses of lucidity during the day, and say to myself "Damn, I'm almost certain I was lucid somewhere in those early REM periods, I wish I could remember"

I have alot of time to spare now, for a few reasons, so that's not an issue, but if you can think of ways or advice on how to improve my recall, improve my CONFIDENCE that I CAN recall, and how to get rid of that mental block somehow...you know, the one that constantly teases you by giving little glimpses of your dreams the day after that you just can't place, I would be oh so thankful to you.

Is it because I don't write them down quick enough? Should I set my alarm for after every probable dream? Is it just a mental block?

It's one of the most frustrating things to wake up, know you had great dreams, and not remember hardly any of them.

Not really sure what I can tell you that you probably don't already know. I usually recall 4-6 dreams per night average, but I have moments too when suddenly, inexplicably, my recall drops off to nothing but vague tantalising glimpses of dreams that refuse to be fully remembered no matter what I try. It usually only lasts a few days though, before things return to normal again.

Here's what I ask myself when it happens:

- Have I changed my habbits somehow? Am I sleeping different? Am I doing something different when i go to bed?

- Have I been feeling more tired or exhausted lately? Perhaps my body is simply trying to recover, leading to deeper sleep and less recall? (this is especially true in moments of stress at work or in my private life)

- Have I been paying enough attention to my dreams? Have I been appreciating them enough? Or has my mind been on other things?

- Have I been so intend on having lucid dreams and experimenting with various dream inducing techniques that I've forgotten to just pay attention to my normal dreams?

Sometimes the lack of recall can be attributed to one of the above things. Sometimes it can't. Most of the times relaxing, just paying attention to my dreams, and giving it a few days will tend to make it sort itself out.

In your case, my first thought would be to attribute the lack of recall to exhaustion. The period in which you recalled many dreams might have been related to sleeping lighter, and getting less restful sleep. Eventually your body has run out of reserves, and is now falling into a much deeper sleep, making it harder to remember things again. If this is the case it'll likely sort itself out once your body has recovered.

I think I will just wait it out...and try to appreciate my regular dreams more...The desperation for lucidty in itself can make your recall drop I think.

I have been getting alot of sleep lately so I don't think it is exhaustion but time heals...so I'll see...
