I know this is kind of a ...strange.. post but I was wondering...
When you hold your breath for too long your brain shuts off because of the lack of oxygen and you go to sleep, and it takes over the muscles and allows you to breathe again.
I know it sounds stupid but I was wondering if a fast way to go to sleep would be to hold your breath until you pass out.

Seriously though, I would not try this =] There will be tonnes of risks with this kind of thing, anything that makes you pass out when you're by yourself is not a good thing to try.
Wikipedia it a bit and see what problems you can find (Y)

Err, yeah. There is NO guarantee that YOUR body will be able to start breathing again once you've passed out.
If you experiment with this, it very well may be the last thing you ever do. :? I wouldn't even think about it.
That wouldn't be possible. After a certain point you would just start breathing again. You would gasp for air. It's just like a reflex. You would have to have someone strangle you. Honestly, this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why not just hit yourself over the head with a bat? That's much faster.

Try one of the techniques in the Tutorials section. You'll probably live longer using one of those.

I don't think its a stupid question, lol. Even I wondered this. I figured it would be too dangerous though...
But why not just... go to sleep? Oxygen deprivation is never healthy. I don't think you could hold your breath long enough to do anything, because you'd naturally gasp for air, but stupid people kill themselves by attempting similar things, for various reasons, all the time.
