      Weird dreams and school

During the school year, I have very few dreams. During summer, I have a lot of weird dreams.

I also had some odd dream about a stolen car, lots of money, someone chasing me, and living in a summer camp as a school, but thats another story.

Are there any links that would connect my lack of dreams during the school year to my amount of dreams during the summer?

Seasonal dream patterns? School-related stress? Different socialization and sleep patterns?

Anyone have facts that would help me discover why I don't get my great weird dreams during school?

I notice an increase in the vividness, length and content of my dreams when I sleep for longer, and whenever I fall asleep without being overly tired or exhausted.
It is possable that because you were getting up early to go to school, your REM cycles may have been getting cut short, interrupting your dreams.
But remember that you dream multiple times every night, whether you recall them or not.

This leads me to another possibility.
Because you were getting up in the morning and instantly thinking about school and trying to get ready, you probably didn't have time to relax and go over your dream when you woke up, therefore by the time you did try to recall your dream, it had sliped from your memory and thats why they seemed faint or even non existant.

If you want to recall your dreams better, keep a dream journal, it would also help you improve vividness and lucidity.

Normally if I am busy, and super stressed - as I am at the moment, my dreams have more to do with what is going on in the real world. Take for instance - I am enrolled for 6 credit hours this summer plus I am tutoring math before, between, and after my classes. I tutor math for hours on end. At night I am exhausted and often dream of giant algebra functions chasing me down. Or the only way I can save a family member is if I complete the derivative of ln x and the keys on my calculator are scrambled and out of order (or my pencil won't work). Stress related dreams that incorporate what I am doing in real life. The worse are when I am stumped on a math problem during the day, and in my dreams I am doing - and re-doing - the problem over and over again. Often I awake in the morning and realize what I did wrong the day before, and am able to complete the math problem. But geez, like I really wanted to spend my time dreaming about that one darn math problem?

During the last two weeks of school, these make up the majority of my dreams (the majority - but not every dream). The more interesting dreams occur during breaks or earlier in the semester when I am not swamped with school work or stressed out.

Perhaps during the school year you are so exhausted that you sleep deeper and remember less of your dreams?? Doesn't mean that they aren't there, perhaps you are just busier and do not recall them as well. During the summer you have more free time on your hands (and probably sleep more), and your dream recall is not hindered by worrying about that math exam or the paper you have due.
