      A sudden jolt...

Sometimes, I wake up with a jolt.

Well, I wasn't really asleep, but I'll give you an example, anyway.

I dreamed I was at a supermarket and running really quickly. I crash into a wall, and land on the floor. I wake up with a jolt.

The weird thing? I wasn't really asleep. I was just imagining everything.

      Is this weird?

This is a hypnogagic jerk. It's fairly normal. I usually get them most if I'm attempting to take a nap or sleep earlier in the night.

Yup I have these a lot when Im in a moving vehicle and taking a nap. Very common and usually associated with seeing or feeling yourself fall right before you are jolted awake.

I've had this happen to me. Exactly the same way you described it.

Ugh, I hate those. It's always stepping off a curb or a stair for me, even if I'm not really thinking about it, it'll feel like I missed a stair and I'll wake right up.

Yup yup I get those jerks sometimes, one of the few hypnagogic sensations that I ever experience.

That's happened to me before. I am dreaming one minute, then the next, my eyes shoot open rather quickly, and it almost feels like I fell off my bed because of the jolt. It was kind of scary,

I would get those jerks in class when I started falling asleep in morning lessons at college.

I'd scare myself - and sometimes those sitting close to me - a fair bit.

Glad I'm not the only one. Thought I was narcoleptic for a time too - but the symptoms went away when I left college

I have this every time I awaken from me falling in a dream. The falling sensation overwhelms me and I jolt when I wake up.

It may be a hypnagogic jerk, but it may also be sleep apnea. Sufferers of sleep apnea sometimes get woken up in sudden jerks because they stopped breathing.
