    Thread: Flatmates

      Flatmates

      So I'm in the summer holiday right now and I live in a flat with four other people.

      I used to be upstairs, but my room is now downstairs between the front door and the living room, which means I am usually on door opening duty and if people are up late in the living room I hear it.

      For the last two mornings running I've been woken up early by people at the door. This is likely to get worse when there are more people. At the same time, the more people there are, the harder it'll be to sleep early.

      Has anyone been in a situation like this before? Any advice for making sure it doesn't interfere with dreaming?

      Haven't been in a situation like this before - apologies - but I do have a couple of suggestions.

      Firstly - is there any chance of moving rooms? If you trust your flatmates enough, you could level with them that dreaming is an important part of your life, and perhaps offer dream interpretation (free over a cup of tea) in return for a quieter room upstairs.

      Earplugs could be another suggestion? They are fairly uncomfortable at first, but eventually you get used to them.

      Maybe suggest to visitors to be respectful and only come between certain times, otherwise bring a key.

      My sympathies to you in this situation. I like my sleep and treasure my dreams ... hope all works out for you soon.
