      mass evacuation

I dreamed last night that a fire was predicted to come to my town/area, so my family decided to evacuate (kind of weird, I know). In fact, throngs of people decided to leave town.
I wasn't really worried. I didn't pack much. I didn't know exactly where we were going.
I was with my family outside at a customs desk. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people are behind us, waiting to leave town.
There are some ethnic families in a line beside us. Their race started with a D (can't remember exactly). I wasn't paying much attention to them until someone in the crowd said: "d___ customs problems" or something like that (like it was a typical problem these people had). I looked over and watched as the customs people made it difficult for them to leave. To my horror, they took a small child (baby) away from a family with about 5 children and proceeded to beat it right in front of the parents. It wasn't close to dead, but they said it was finished and must stay here to die. They did a similar thing with another family's slightly older child. The child's head was beaten in, but again, it could have survived. I imagined the child, left alone in this soon to be desolate place, injured and starving to death; crying with no one to hear it. They finally let the families through (less some of their children!). Reminded me of Nazi Germany.
My family didn't have any trouble (I suppose because we were white. And yes I know how horrible that is). We were given our passports to a place called Knoi or something. I hadn't known before that we were going so far away. I started to cry. I said to my father: "if I'd known we were leaving the country I would have brought more stuff!"
      "Like what?" he said.
I thought about it, but I got the idea that we were limited on what we were allowed to bring (by the government? the custom's people? they were all in on it). The idea of a pillow came to mind. "I don't know," I said. "But I would have brought something." The idea of leaving everything I had and everything I knew behind really startled me. I began to scan the crowd for my friends. I thought if I'd known what was really going on I would have hugged them or said goodbye.
Senator Barack Obama was working behind one of the desks. He said some things to us (just in general conversation, not addressing the whole crowd) but I don't remember what they were.
It dawned on me that this might be the end of everything. I thought of the empty city, perhaps country with no one in it. And it scared me.
Then I thought about the fact that something like this could only be a dream. And woke up. Relieved.

I don't know what this could mean (or what Obama could have to do with it, haha). It seems like a general apocalyptic dream (which I have from time to time). Just wanted to share.

This is another dream about an infectious outbreak. Zombies of the fast, running, shoot in the heads only caliber.

My parents and I are standing outside of a very fancy restaraunt with a bunch of people in fancy clothes - suits, fur coats, etc (I hate fur coats.) We're waiting for an armed escort to take us to our homes. One of our security detail radios the escort but no response. I quickly suggest we're not safe and I some of the men offer to let us all ride in their trucks to the security HQ just down the road about a mile to see what happened to our guys. We get there to find their dead bodies - killed by zombies.

I was standing in a grocery store parking lot at about 9-10 PM with a huge group of people, maybe a hundred. Everyone was talking saying "yeah its here. infection's here now. we've got get what we can and leave town now." I knew what was going on and wanted to leave but my parents just wanted to stay and chit-chat about it. I knew that any time this huge crowd could draw zombies to us, even this early in an outbreak. They can be anywhere.

Next, its the middle of the day, sunny and clear, and I'm in a car in the passenger seat. My brother in law is driving, we're going to my grandmas house to get her and bring her back to our house. We're listening to the radio trying to find news on the outbreak but nothing's coming in. I'm watching the sides of the road, and I see my first zombie staggering along in a ditch - though it doesn't give chase.

Another scene change leaves me and my dad, mom, two sisters their husbands standing in our driveway. It is overcast, looks like rain soon. My dad is pointing at some chart he's got set up on the garage door. It's some kind of statistical graph - according to it, he says, everything will be just fine. "Why are we standing outside - now, of all times??!" I'm thinking.

The next scene change - its the same overcast cloudy day but I'm driving in my truck by myself. The town is utterly deserted but looks just like it does in real life. I happen upon a store thats in my town - K-Mart - but it's been gutted out. So its just a big empty room. It has a garage door that is left open. I drive my truck in to investigate and I find that my girlfriend and her parents have sought refuge here. All they have is a truck and a small trailer. I try to convince them to go somewhere safer buuuuuut scene change and I don't know what they decide.

I'm in a back alley with about 7 or 8 other guys. We're crouched down waiting to go out and fight zombies. We're dressed in that horrible-ass hunting camo and armed with shovels. The lead guy tells us we're about to see some fighting and to get ready as some of us might not make it back.

It's nighttime now and for some stupid reason my dad has our cars parked half in the garage and half out with the big doors open, and they're blocked by the cars. I look through the doors and see zombies very far away and I quickly tell him "Look. You need to get these doors down. If those zombies see you, they're going to start sprinting." Foolishness.

Scene change. I'm at my dad's old doctors office. We've come back to get some patient records because apparently even in doomsday, people need their charts. The front door is locked and I'm staring out at the empty town. Suddenly Sun from LOST comes up to the door and I let her in. She is a friend of our family as my dad delivered her baby and I tell her she can seek refuge with us as we've been secured a "safe zone" by the government. My parents come out of the back and agree to let her come with us.

The last scene of this stupidly long dream has me sitting in a room in our safe house. It's actually two seperate little houses in a woodsy area I'd say is a lot like rural Japan. This is our safe zone - nothing safe or protective about it, just secluded. It is always raining here, and seemingly always night or dusk. I'm making fried spam (?) on the stove and suddenly my dog starts barking - I tell her to be quiet for a second...and she actually does it for once.

I don't know how, throughout of all this stupidness I did not become lucid.
Life in a box is better than no life at all, I expect. You'd have a chance, at least. You could lie there thinking, "Well. At least I'm not dead.'
