DCs that you feel sorrow for having to say goodbye to

Has there ever been a case where the characters in your dreams evoke so much emotion that you wake up and miss them for days on end, and wish you could meet them again?

They feel far more solid and real than regular dream characters, they're often believable and you can sometimes feel their emotions, often strong feelings of happiness and love.

Then when you wake up and realise they weren't real after all, it hits you so hard that you might even cry, knowing that such lovable and rich (I mean in character, not monetary wealth) people weren't real after all.

Has anyone ever dealt with this?

The first dream in my dream journal, I felt such a connection that I cried when I woke up. I wanted to go back to the dream. Weird how you can feel love with something that isn't even there.

I have also had experiences like this, which is one thing that led me to the DEILD technique without realizing that was what I was doing. If I was badly enough affected by them disappearing when I woke up I would reenter the dream.

I must disagree with you on this. We percieve dreams and all within them the exact same way we percieve anything IRL, so they are no less real or "there" to us than anyone we see while we are awake. "But they aren't a real (IRL) person!" That may (or may not, if you believe in SD) be true, but for the course of the dream (or dreams, if they are recurring DC) they are just as real as anything else in your life.

Truthfully, and this is just a bit of a projection, people get bent out of shape by things that are IRL that don't physically exist. Bills, for example, keep people awake and especially in this bad economy can destroy people's lives before any of the reprocussions of incurring the debt and not paying it back take place. Bills, debt, is just a concept and is no more real than a DC or Santa, but most of us accept that as a proper [imaginary] thing to let worry you into an early grave. Just a thought.

      All the Best,

      ^awesome post rR

I've also felt a connection to DC's before and woken up quite sad when I've realised it was just a dream.

This is just like characters in book series. You grow attached to em, and are sad to see them go.

You grow attached to the plot and ideas of the book aswell. But it is nice to have closure when a series ends and move on to a new book or book series.

      All the time!

I think it's an archetype for many of us, if not all, and represents our longing for one-ness with another. In the dream with the loved DC we don't feel troubled or discomforted. The DC could even be someone we know, our RL partner perhaps, but I think that just reminds us how much we want someone in real life to be that dream person too. I agree totally with rose_red that it's the same feeling in dreams as real life. I would go further to say that in real life we're actually falling in love with the dream person (idealised version of the person in front of us) so in many ways the dream is the more real of the two!

Dealing with it? Frankly I've learned to welcome it. Like meeting and saying bye bye a friend and looking forward to the next time. I've also learned to identify the feelings in real life, inviting "her" (always her in my case) to be with me whenever I sense the feelings. This can be very powerful and I've been in tears in public places at times. But I've also learned to some very rewarding relationships with RL people too, which I attribute to this work.

I would say this is the one part of dream engagement that has really helped me.

It really sucks when you fall in love though.

In dreams or in real life?

Well, either way, yes. You know the feeling will end.

Hell yes. Especially when a DC represents someone IRL.

Well atleast if it's someone irl you are in love with a real person and you can ask him/her out.

Wow I didn't realise so many people had the same experience. I always thought I was just a bit strange in that sense.

Some people would tell you they weren't dream characters.
Haha, lol what else would those people suggest it could be? They're in a dream, they're characters, they can only be dream characters.

Do a search on shared dreaming and dream entities. Take it with a grain of salt.

I've had Dcs like this in the past, yes. Sometimes it's kind of the opposite--I meet a DC and realize I'd met them long ago, and I cry because I had forgotten them. It's very sad.

I can sometimes find DCs I've met when I'm lucid, but I so rarely remember their names or faces that even then it's near impossible.

I am planning to create a "lucid dream sidekick", probably that vampire cat loaf that used to be my avatar that commonly appears in my signature.
It would be fun to create a dream friend that could help you out with controlling the dream, maybe even becoming a dream sign. And then you could regularly make them appear and you wouldn't miss them.

Ooooh that sounds fun. I have had a lot of pets in my LDs but they have a habit of getting killed....it's just too hard keeping track of them.

My DCs have a habit of getting killed, too, so it's no surprise. I try not to get too attached to them because I'll be trying to save them from monsters or something and I'll turn around and be like "oh...they're dead"

It would be so cool to have a little sidekick/mascot, too...I could send them out for recon missions and stuff like that. But so far normal DCs and animals aren't useful for those things because like I said, they're dumb and get killed. I suppose I could keep trying.

I've had this a couple times. Completely original people whom I had never met before, yet in the dream I felt like I had known them for my whole life. Connections and moments with them, then to wake up and realise it was all a dream. Dreams are very powerful to me.

i met someone in a dream last week that i haven't been able to get out of my head.

in fact, this is going to sound so silly, but... i felt so guilty about it that i told my fiance. of course, he didn't think it was a big deal. i didn't even do anything with him in the dream except i wanted to kiss him. i woke up before i did.

is this completely retarded or what?
the news reports on the radio said it was getting worse
as the ocean air fanned the flames
but i couldn't think of anywhere i would have rather been
to watch it all burn away
