I don't want to wake up

I don't know if I am alone in this thought but I would like to know. I go to bed every night and have the most vibrant dreams. I dream the impossible, epic tales of warriors and demons. Worlds being destroyed and reborn. Falling in love and not wanting to let go.

I wake up every morning, same old room, no love because of a fiancé who left me for no reason, a job that is going nowhere and studying in school to become a neurosurgeon but having no social life because of it. I am also slowly going colorblind which means I will more than likely not be able to become the surgeon I desire to be if this proceeds.

I don't know it just seems so bland and menial. Whereas, in a dream I feel purpose and compassion. I dwell in lush landscapes and vibrant worlds. I love and have it returned to me completely. I never want to leave that world.

Does anyone else feel this way or has felt this way and if so what did you do about it or how did you get past it. Also if you don't feel this way, why not? I am not looking for this to turn into a counseling thing just probing for ideas and thoughts. Thanks guys.

I'd be surprised if someone didn't feel this way! Except I do love my family and friends so they'll have to tag along xD I love dreaming and hate working (schoolwork) but at least you have one thing to look forward to each night eh?

This is what lucid dreaming is for :D escape reality even if it's only for 30mins a week, those 30mins will most likely be the best time of the week (they sure are for me!). The world's a boring place but you control your fate. obviously you're not gonna fly or fight monsters (even though that might be possible in the far future) but you can follow what you LOVE. Find a way to fly, genetically create monsters (NOT RECOMMENDED XD) whatever you have the power here.

Life will never be as fun as a lucid dream. It has too many rules. Play by the rules at day, break them at night! Enjoy real life. A problem shared is a problem halved but I think you should be able to cope by yourself :p If you start getting depressed though do something about it :/

I'm exactlly the same.
I have a tough time at school- I don't relate to people at all, everyone thinks I am quiet and shy, I have had nicknames like Emo in the past just because I am shy, I'm sensitive to criticism, I'm crap at everything that I try to do, I just can't find a place in the real world.

I haven't even had a Lucid Dream yet but I know that when I do, I will have found my escape from the world. I'm pretty sure 90% of people feel the same way as you and I do.
I know that you shouldn't dream your life away- but really, sometimes it feels like you should; when the experiences in your dreams are so real that they make the real world seem so pathetic.
My friend said something very true the other day on her Facebook page-
'Through life I have learnt; none of the Cullen boys are single, that acceptance letter to Hogwarts that I have been waiting for will never come, and there definatelly is no secret passage way in the back of my closet to Narnia.'

Don't worry- I know what you mean and so does everyone else here.
Just use sleep as an escape, and when you have to get up in the morning to go to school/work, just remember you have an escape at night to come home to.

You are not alone...not at all. I think all if not most of us here have that one thing in common. The thing we seek is a temporary escape from what our reality is. These fantastic dreams give us just that. I went from using books,drugs, anime and now dreams. I've always WANTED to be sucked in the universes those things created. Eventually I came to terms that I can never escape what reality is right now. I just have to make the best of it and mold to how I want it to be.

1. It seems to be youre still pretty upset with that fiancee situation...which btw...the guy/girl sounds like a deauch. You were better off him/her leaving now than if you actually married.

2. It appears that your neurosurgeon career isn't what you want...or what you thought it would be. Find a career you love, it's better to change it now than later on. Just remember to have a healthy balance in life...between school...work...fun etc.


last...I think once you've taken care of those worries...and the things that stress you out, you're dreams will be even more amazing...

Why thanks guys, it is good to know that people here feel the same way, or similar in their own thoughts. I love my dreams, and they love me and I use them as an escape I know that much. I do need to get some stuff fixxed in my own personal life as you can tell but it is good to know I am not alone in my thought process.

I feel the SAME exact thing, I hate reality mainly because of the predicament I am currently stuck in.

Stuck living at home with parents, stuck without a job, stuck without an income, stuck here with my miserable father who is an overbearing, bossy, controlling, angry, ignorant, douche bag.

I love sleep because i don't have to face him and the reality of being stuck here seemingly permanently caught in a loop week to week its like a repeated sitcom thats not funny and its the same episode everyday on every tv and you can't change the channel or shut the tv off.

Yea, im sure we aren't the only ones who hate reality and love the dream world.

Unfortunately even my dreams are invaded by bad things and negative people like my dad.

Uh, excuse me. Can we all just get back to earth for a moment. Its not healthy to want to live in your dreams. Escapisim isn't good.

You guys should grab life by the balls instead of letting life grab your balls and you wont be so bored of life and wanting to stay dreaming forever.

I always hear that but i never hear how that is achieved, sorry but to people like us it seems unachieveable to change our current situations.

Especially when you are flat broke and dependent on parents, and cannot find a job good enough to support one self.

Only if you want it to be. I don't make a lot of money, i live at home, pay bills etc. If i wanted to do something about it, then i would do something about it but i'm fine where i am right now. Don't make excuses, if you wanna change then just change. The only one stopping you, IS you. I'm sure there are a ton of rich people who started off being in a situation like you, look at them now? Nobody ever said it's easy, it's probably VERY hard, but still doable if you are commited to it.

It is intereseting to hear both sides of this. I personally as stated above would love to stay in my dreams and don't like nor desire to wake up from them. I at one point did love waking up, I loved seeing what the next day brought me. But not lately or anytime recently, I desire to sleep and dream my life away. That idea is so more tantalizing to me than the waking world. This waking world which steals away what I need to do what I set out to do, or the people who you integrate heavily into your life that decide to destroy you.

I can see what you see when you wake up happy and wanting to go forth in life because I was at that point for a long time in my life. But not now, I despise the morning and what it brings and signals dreams to me give a warmth and love that is long gone now. That is why I desire to dream forever, because I am happiest there and not here. In case you wondered.

Go find a new chick. You know what will happen next? it will start with you only happy when you are sleeping, then you will start slacking off and you wont become a neurosurgeon. If you are just going to lay in bed wishing dream life will be your perma home, it will be because that is all you will have. Go out and have some fun, and find a new girl while you are at it. If she left for no reason (always a reason btw, she just did not tell you), then screw her. You are worth more then that, so show her you are better then that and keep your life together. Find a reason to wanna be happy being awake, even if it is something silly. you are 19 years old, your life has just begun. If you are bored with the same habbits, then spice your life up. Try something that you normally would not do. Life is all about the thrills, no? you only have 1 life, so live it.

I know there was a reason that my GF of 5 years then fiance of a year left, yeah I know it was early don't say anything about that and that I am young. I said no reason simply because it was unnecessary for the conversation. If you wish to know she left because she wanted to go f*ck every guy in sight. All of this happening oh lets see, a little before christmas. I know why I am here and why I don't want to wake up in the morning adn it is because I am still dealing with that. I simply asked if other people felt this way about life and why/why not and how. No need to throw insults.

What's insulting is dreams being used in a way to make it no better than heroin or the like. I don't see why you're sitting here on dream views making yourself such a helpless victim. Why don't you do thing during the day that make you happy or at least forget for the moment how dismal your life "seems". You make it seem like you have no choice and you're some type of slave destined for a shit life. It's time to grow up and if you're not satisfied with your life then it's time to make some changes. Some of these posts sound like one way tickets to suicide. If you think none of your lives are worth living, go check out some poverty stricken 3rd world countries and see how they cope.

That was not aimed at you. You are being respectful in your dissagreament in opinion. It was however aimed at you luciousmaximus.

I realize you dissagree with the opinion and stance I currently have on life. You do not however need to insult me or we who have this mindset. This was my original question that was posed. So far I have gathered you do not feel this way. You have completely avoided however the question of why. You do not need to insult someone who already likes his dreams more because he doesnt have to deal with the distasteful likes of you. If you wish to have some meaning or purpose on this thread post why you feel the way you do, or leave. But, do not insult me or the others like me. It serves no purpose and only leads to an accentuation of why some of us feel this way.

"Happy" is a state of mind and one I'm not always in so I'm not going to sit on here and list things that make me happy because I do whatever I'm interested in hanging out with friends, exercising, partying, school and sometimes I'm happy doing these things and sometimes I'm not. It's easier to get into a happy mindset when you're doing fun things that really interest you and connecting with other people.

You're just listing excuses on why you have this shit life. And frankly, online I have no sympathy for you.

Your girlfriend left you big whoop, people get their heartbroken all the time and it's understandable to be hurt and need time, but to no longer value your life is just pitiful maybe you need some counseling or something.

You say your job is going no where, why should it if youre studying to become a neurosurgeon? Isn't it just a part time job to make money?

You say you're going colorblind so all the studying you do to become a neurosurgeon -- which is giving you no social life -- is all pointless. Isn't that a great excuse to quit and find something less demanding and can actually give you some happiness and self worth?

All I see is a bunch of crap excuses.

If you think youre going to get sympathy online by strangers then I guess you learned something from me. You should be looking to family and friends for support not an online message board. If you dont have that then I'd be a little more sympathetic and apologize for being so harsh.

But that's exactly how I felt, and like what you've said, Angelofhex, after I first started lucid dreaming on purpose. The logic I had was, "If its more enjoyable, why do anything else?" The problem is that difficulty is not something we should avoid simply because it is uncomfortable. Difficulty is how we truly gain rewards that no lucid dream could ever duplicate. And relationships also are absent from dreams. Yes, absent. Unless you're doing some shared dreaming with someone, all you're interacting with is yourself when you do things with other DC's...and it's hard to keep yourself company for very long.

You know, you're digging your own grave here. By wanting to stay in a dream, you're in essence trying to isolate yourself from everyone, which will cause a further sense of dissatisfaction that will drive you further to live in the dream (I know that's my name, but it's not meant to be taken as a life principle :P), which will start the whole process of isolation over again.

As I learned, and as you must learn, the only way to break that cycle is to wake up and decide to take on real life--difficulties and all--like the others have said thus far. If you do that with the right attitude, I think you'll actually find the challenges much more enjoyable than the ease of dreaming anyway. :)

Everyone has dreams such as. I hate waking up from dreams where I got it made, because I have to adjust back to my waking life a few hours after waking up from such a great dream.

Also, about this whole "living in your dreams" argument, why should you give a damn what others say if you're happy? You could be the craziest unstable human being, but their opinions mean nothing if you're truly happy with what you see, feel, hear, etc... You're living for you, not for what others think of you.

Living for yourself is an awfully worthless way to live...trust me, I've been down that road. You've got to have something besides yourself that's worth living for, else life just isn't worth living.

The thing is, my name is supposed to be a play on 'living the dream', and lucid dreaming is kind of like being alive inside a dream...so that's technically where the name came from, but it does sound funny in this context :lol:

I know exactly what you mean. In fact that is why I have always been ambivalent about dreams. If the dream is bad I wake up in a bad mood. If the dream is good I wake up also in a bad mood cus I realized it was all a dream. The only good dream to me is a weird dream where I do some weird things that are impossible in real life. Many times when I was having a lucid dream I tried and tried and tried to stay in the dream a little longer but inevitably I woke up earlier than I wanted to.

Oh god yes, I know what you're talking about. I love escaping into dreams, and hate waking up back in reality. I love the feeling you get from dreams and the things you do. It's one thing to suddenly find yourself awake though, and feel the dream ending AS YOU'RE IN IT. You can feel reality pulling you back and you try to resist but you can't, and suddenly you're back in your bed and it's like "Dammit"




That's why I've started writing stories about my dreams again: more escapism. Maybe you should try that, if, like you said, you can't become a surgeon, you can try writing. With the way your dreams sounded, you'd probably do well.

Last night was the first night that made me feel this way.

I was walking down a road with my brother and his new fiancé. She looked a bit like Reese Witherspoon, bundled in a long black jacket. My brother was arguing with her, saying that they should turn back. They had differing opinions but I could tell just how much they were in love. She was so sweet, so opinionated, and I could see how lucky my brother was, and that I would never be able to be with her.

I told my brother that he was a lucky man, mentioned that I'd never find a girl like that. He ruffled my hair and told me that everyone is like that in highschool. It didn't help.

I woke up relieved that my bittersweet trial was over, and yet saddened that such a precious person had never existed.

I get this all the time. I wish I could stay in my dreams are they're rarely unpleasant places to be!

But life is life. What we experience in our day to day lives will affect what we dream. So I plan on making the most out of everyday so my dreams reflect the happiness I have in my real life.
