Felt pain that came over from dream?

Last night, I had a non-lucid dream which, quite frankly, scared the hell out of me. I was being chased by a police officer, and then they caught me. The dream sort of skipped, and then I was suddenly on a gurney in a darker sort of room. There was a circular saw right above my neck, held up by a structure. It looked like something from the Saw franchise (don't mind the pun). Then, the saw began to move down towards my neck, and move from side to side. It was sort of above my neck and to the left, and then it went down. Then, it went to the right and began to go across my neck. It was really painful, which wasn't really that scary. I thought slightly that it might be a dream, but I didn't pay much attention to it.

The thing is, I woke up with a quick heartbeat and a sore, throbbing pain in my neck. Why is it that the pain carried over from my dream to waking life? Maybe leftover feelings from the dream?
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Sometimes waking stimulants carry over into dreams, like you could have had pressure on your neck while you slept, Its not too uncommon. If you read up about the lucid dream induction masks the flash of lights in your eyes while you sleep is kind of the same thing, only instead of saws you see police lights or glare from the sun or even alien spacecraft in your dreams

Hope your experience was not too scary for you

Thanks. It was scary, yes, but rather interesting at the same time. I have read about those masks one time.

I actually have the same thing all the time. Once I slapped someone in the face, my hand turned red. Once I screamed, I don't know why, but when I woke up, my throught became sore and I had to cough. Don't know why, but I'm okay with it.

I often wonder the same. I think pain does carry through, but it's hard to be absolutely sure. I had really bad toothache one night and slept well and dreamed well. Another night I felt like my arm was being frozen off and woke with nothing more than a sensation left by my lying on it. So yes, but not predictably yes.

I once dreamt that a giant squid took a bite out of my hip. I woke up and it was hurting like hell. I think that's the only time it happened to me, but it was weird.

Something similar happened another time - someone put a plastic bag or something around my head (in the dream) and I couldn't breathe and I woke up and I had trouble breathing for a few seconds.

the only dream that i had that i felt some kind of pain, is a dream in which i was around my brothers wife and her friends, cut the dream short but, i was in a house they were there talking, and i felt this baseball sized lump underneath my right armpit, felt like jelly, my first thought was "this could be cancer but maybe the doctors can fix it" as i was touching it i could move it, i moved it all the way up through my armpit, arm and into my cheek, then it went in my mouth, and suddenly i started puking out my insides, my intestines, stomach, etc.. and i was convulsing on the ground, i was sure that i was dead.
