Sleep Walking - A question and relatively funny story

Alright, so I'm posting this for my friend who sleep walks on a pretty average basis. She used to be my room mate, and would sleep walk into my room and start hitting my keyboard and then fall over, sometimes I'd come home and she had sleep walked into my bed, etc... We don't live together anymore, she moved out of state, as did I... However, I got a call from her a few days ago....

So, I'm sitting at home and I get this call from her. She's at work, she works at a music store. The call was pretty frequently interrupted with her helping customers, but the gist of it went something like....

"Chloe, you know stuff about dreams and sleeping and stuff, right?"
      "Yeah, I guess."
      "I need help."
      "Okay..."

"So, I just moved into this new place... and I woke up this morning and noticed a few things were very strange. First, I noticed my bed was soaking wet, which I later realized was milk. There was also cereal everywhere and a bowl of cereal next to me and I don't recall getting the cereal. Next, I notice that I am completely naked and I didn't go to sleep naked!

So, I followed this trail of cereal to the kitchen. There was another trail of cereal leading from the kitchen to the gym, where I found the dress I was wearing ripped on the weight bench set.

I remember you telling me before that when I have an REM period I'll go into sleep paralysis, but I distinctly remember the dream I was having while this was taking place. I was in a carnival, and there were these hairy men everywhere. I remember in the dream I tripped and fell and ripped my dress, and instead of running and letting it rip more, I tore it off so I could get away from the clowns."

So... I was under the impression that you always went into sleep paralysis when you were in REM sleep. Does this apply to sleep walkers? She swears that she was dreaming while this happened, or at least she thinks she was because the dream coincided with a lot of the things that she did while sleep walking.

I'm not qualified to answer the question, but that was a pretty funny story!

Yeah... I omitted the part where she said, "and the most messed up part of this whole thing, is that I told my co-worker about it and he didn't even laugh."
