      Video Games Hurt Lucidity?

Lately, I've been playing a lot of Warsow, a really bloody addicting FPS. Lately, I've been having dreams where even though I'm doing amazing acrobatic stunts and being really good at moving (something I'm poor at in real life), but I've been unconsciously just saying, "it's a video game." I never think about RCing during video games (gotta kill the enemies!), so I'm wondering:

Gamers, is video-game playing hurting your getting lucid?
I don't usually think, therefore I mostly am not.

Maybe you should just start doing Reality Checks whenever you play your game/think about playing your game.

I hate when videogames get in my dreams. I'll dream about playing them, and never RC. I've started to make sure I'm not playing them right before I go to sleep so it doesn't happen as much. I'll either read something, or watch a movie.

The problem is that my dream gaming starts in media res, and I, like many, don't think about gaming while gaming.

I see what you mean. Maybe you could try to start doing Reality Checks every time you get a kill, or something like that?

I'll try that. Usually, I play, brush my teeth, and go to bed. I'm really bad about not using the computer for an hour before bed.

The problem with that is that I suck so hard at FPS games that I never kill anyone.
Nah, just kidding. Good idea. I'll try to remember to do that.

EDIT: lol double post FTW. Do I get cake yet?

we had a thread a bit ago about a study on playing video games being correlated to more lucid dreams.
i tested this by playing HL2 a few hours daily for a week or so after not playing any video games for quite a while. i had a dry spell during that week, so my experience contradicts the study... right now i don't spend any time gaming, which is usual. not very scientific, but just see what happens when you mess around with this variable.

i still have dream flashbacks of being in marathon 2: durandal (another FPS), which i haven't played for years...

i am not to the point of lucidity by any means, still working on my recall which needs some improvement, but i remember a drea i had earlier this week that is in my DJ now. I was inside a hotel casino fighting off zombies with this yakuza dude. He offered my guns but i just claimed a sheathed katana for my weapon of choice, somewhere in the dream i discovered that playing guitar hero rendered the zombies paralyzed and i went around smacking them in the face with the plastic guitar. i woke up laughing so hard when i recalled that aspect of my dream. i would be running thru the casino jamming guitar hero buttons haha this was a great dream. I dont hardly play video games that much anymore but other than this, i cant recall any dreams when im playing.

I read an article on a site that says that playing video games actually increase lucidity, and that video gamers are better lucid dreamers.

I know what you're talking about. I have a lot of dreams where I'm playing video games ,and since I think I'm just playing a video game I never bother to do RCs when something strange happens. Because, you know, it's the video game.
