I don't know if there's other threads on it, but what the hell, I'll post one.
The next time you have an LD, split it in half. What I mean by that is, have TWO at the same time! The brain is a wonderful thing, and maybe this can be acheived? Like I said, there might already be a thread on this.
I haven't LDed once yet (yeah, I'm mad too) so I figured I'd assign it to those of you who can (and to me when I eventually do it).
I'm not sure I like the idea of being schizophrenic in my dreams.

Would splitting your dream reality into two interconnected images make you schizophrenic?
I’m not sure about waking reality (obviously this task is impossible) or from the p-o-v of vision, but within the dream you could try and mix two different visions at once in relation to say making a movie or something and project it onto a TV screen (when two things are happening at the same time). You could try and project your subconscious and conscious mind onto the screen and watch the two images and their interaction......
I’m under the assumption that every act within itself is schizophrenic, wouldn’t lucid dreaming be characterised as a form of schizophrenic ‘disorder’? (prob get a horde of completes and scientific reasoning’s now –lol)
Ive tired Montage in my dreams as a method of finding ideas for short films but usually i find no connection WAKING REALITY IDEAS A+B=C (lol)

As to the task.. frankly I have enough trouble keeping just one of me in a lucid dream!
I think this would be good for an extremely hard lucid task ;)

It'd be split screen Dreaming. :)
On one side there's one dream where you're flying and having a blast, then on the other, there you are again at the all you can eat no-consequences, ice cream and pizza buffet. :shock:

Ok, first off, if you really wanted to experience two LDs at once, thats not the problem. THe problem is being conscious of the two simultaniously. Your conscious mind can only percieve or process so much, I think its like 7 bits of data at one time. It's your subconscious mind can process all the other stuff.
Being two people at once would be an overload on the conscious part of your mind. Sure you can do it subconsciously, but being two conscious people... it's just not likely your able to do it. I mean for instance, try splitting yourself up into 10 people. Your mind can create those ten of you, but you can only control one consciously at one time (if each one is given a unique command).
If this were possible, you'd be literally creating a unique conscious being.
One thing you can do is, consistently switch between the two at the high points of the LD experiences. I think you can do this effectively to where you would get that effect, but once you start going over 2 of you... it gets to be just switching between people.
Now the split screen.... isn't necessary, and if you did that, you'd probably be splitting your body in half as well, unless your seeing yourself in 3rd person.
Thats just my opinion however, based on what someone can be conscious of all at once. (think of it as trying to be conscious of the whole universe, you can see it as one big picture, but being aware of all the detail at once... doesn't seem possible).

To control two conscious beings, would be like trying to control some person in real life... Each consciousness is going to have with it, its own will and disires. You can only have control over one consciousness at a time, it only makes logical sense.
Usually our mind is made up of millions of wills and disires and programming, that all mixes and balances to make one consciousness. For instance when you talk to dream characters, they seem to have their own consciousness wills and disires, but in essence you can see that they don't when your able to control what they do, even what they want.
Consciousness is a very unique and pretty undefined thing... It's really hard to debate whether or not it can be split. But I think of consciousness like a focal point, a dot in an ocean of subconscious currents. They all focus onto one point. Mathematically, a point is defined as infintesimal, you can't divid it in half. If consciousness were a tangable object or function, we could break it down into parts and perhaps copy and divid it... but it doesn't really have those properities.
I'd be pretty scary if someone could copy their consciousness and spread it around. It would be screwed up.

This is absolutely possible. How, do you ask? First off, take a musical mind. Some musically inclined people can think of over 20 instruments simultaneously (I myself can do this). Sure it's a musical thought, but a thought is a thought.
Now taking this is to account, replace an auditory sense with a visual sense. Perhaps, even both at once.
It would be very interesting to see a powerful LD-er take on this challenge...

I never said you couldn't have alot of thoughts, In fact the subconscious mind can have billions of them upon millions in any given second. And yes, you could think of 20 instruments and the billions of songs in your head, however its your subconscious mind thats allowing you to do this.
Your conscious experience of it, is what is limited. For instance try listening to two people talking at once. One in the left and one in the right ear. You'll notice that you will have to switch between the two people as fast as you can, because you can only consciously listen to one person at a time. Thats one reason it's unsafe to drive with a cell phone, some people don't have conscious minds on the road, instead its on someone talking.
Now yes your subconscious mind can process multiple people talking at once and drive and talk to someone all at once, but the conscious mind must take one at a time. Unless your letting yourself just say things automatically or have autopilot on, you can't help but only concentrate on a limited number of things in one moment in time.
THe subconscious mind can process those things that have already been done before. For instance when your driving most of it has become habitual and automatic, but when something comes up that hasn't been done before (ie car speeding towards you) you have to conscously make a decision... but your conscoius mind is talking with someone, it takes a moment to switch back to the car heading towards you and then BOOM your in a wreck.
I'm simply saying, you can't be conscious (That is concentrating and being fully aware of something -without it being an automatic or routine thing) of more than around 7 things at a given moment in time... it's simply a limitation.
If your having two LDs then you are being two different entities. You can let the subconscious mind control one when your being conscious of the other. Otherwise concentrating on two entities at one time is just really hard, not too fun, and defeats the purpose.
Here's an interesting excercise to try and expand that conscious mind though: Try to be fully aware of (concentrating on) every sound, sight, feeling, and thoughts going through your head. Odds are you won't be fully consciously aware of all of them in a given moment. You'll find yourself switching between them... sound/something moving/a feeling/ and a thought passing by.
Actually this is really silly, because the conscious mind and subconscious minds are not seperate, they are ONE. Its like the fully conscoius awareness being the lighter end of a color and the darker spectrum of that color being the subscousious. And as you go down the shades the fuctions change from more analytical to more creative. The two are one in the same, the same color, just different shades per say.
As i said before its almost impossible to debate this, because the conscous mind is so undefined... Actually the mind is probably one of the biggest mysteries to man... we know so little about it, so this is just my educated guess.

While LDing the division between conscious and subconscious is blurred.
I think this is completley possible, and i'm going to do it. Why do I KNOW its possible?
Well thats because when I was young, I was a VERY active LDer, to such an extent, that you know how sometimes you can be aware of your body in bed, and be aware of your dream body? Well, i could control both, and I did, it was a little weird, but yeah, I was able to actually walk around, goto the bathroom, all while runnin around and flyin in some dream.
The limitation is there normally because your conscious mind is used to processing one thing at once.
I can elaborate more.. In a few of my dreams, i was not only able to read people's minds in them, but I was able to control them, while being in the same body. Yes, simultaneously. Even STRANGER, i was able to talk back and forth to myself.
Yes, its possible, i'm going to pull it off, and when I do i'll be sure you start a thread about it.
I also have a few *strange* real life abilities that may help with this. I am ambidextrious, I can write with both hands simulataneously, backwards and forwards.. I can also speak forwards and in esrever (reverse :P). Ocasionally, if I'm tired, i've been known to write a full mirror image of a paper... and it just comes natural to me.
Ok yes, I agree with you, you can be aware of two things at once... I'm just saying you can't be fully consciously aware of two things in at one time. You can split your conscious awareness into two bodies, I'm just saying your conscious awareness of both bodies will also be split and the more you split it, the less your conscious control will be and the more harder it will become to experience both. Two seems to be workable, but more than that is going to be hard.
I believe you can do it, and go for it, it sounds cool. I'm just trying to make a point of saying that the conscious mind is hindered when splitting it into two or more bodies.
