First lucid: what the hell happened?

I've become quite interested in lucid dreaming lately, and decided I wanted to try it out. I have terrible dream recall, so I started recording my dreams in a journal. I haven't been doing this for long, but something happened this morning that has left my confused. :\

I believe I had my first lucid dream (at least, first that I recall).
I woke up around 7 this morning because of the commotion. I was too distracted to remember my dream. I stayed up until 9 and fell asleep. I had a dream, but it felt like a continuation. I realized I was picking up where I left off! I think it was a WBTB? But I wasn't thinking about it when I fell asleep...ahh, well.

I won't go into too much detail about the dream. It was really quite lame. I was at the mall with my friend Kara, but I'm not close with her so it was awkward. Her best friend Alice showed up. Kara wandered off with her. I walked towards the exit of the mall and saw them talking behind a plant (?? lol) while staring at me. I could tell they were talking about me.
I thought, "I'm just going to leave and be cool, not confront them."
I was about to leave through the sliding doors (like a grocery store??) when something hit me. I'm not sure what caused it, but suddenly, I put my hands up in the air and said "HOLD UP! This is a dream!"

As soon as I said that, something awful and strange happened. A force pulled on my body, like it was trying to pull me down to the floor. My body was like...vibrating? It was numbing, and odd, and difficult to explain.
You know that feeling you get when you know something bad has happened? When a pain runs through your stomach and you think "Oh shit!" It was kind of like that, but 50x stronger and seemed to run throughout my whole body. It wasn't painful, but definitely wasn't pleasant. It was as if gravity was having its revenge on me. It surprised me so much I woke up. DAMN!

Looking back, it felt as though my body was going through a sort of...metamorphosis? Before it happened, it was like I was a spirit. I don't recall looking down and being able to see my body, my presence was just...there! It kind of felt like my body was solidifying, I'm not sure. Whatever it was, it scared the hell out of me.

I recognized that I was dreaming, so I guess it was a lucid. But has that ever happened to anyone else? Or is that common? I am new to this...maybe I'm just a wimp. :P

The feeling: I had the same thing the first (and the only) time I became lucid. People say it's an amazing feeling, and I'd have to agree with them. It wasn't painful, like you said, but it was pleasant for me. Felt green and yellow, if that makes any sense. Electrifying. But I definitely felt something I never had before. Whether or not that's common I cannot say.

Nonetheless, that was definitely lucid! Congratulations!

The doorman isn't the type to let anyone talk to him in a manner that isn't submissive. He isn't the type to let things go. The doorman does not quite understand what just happened, but he also isn't the type to let confusion stop him taking action. The doorman's bulky frame bursts out from behind his desk to go after me.

Lucid dreaming is closer to "being awake" than normal sleep/dreaming. When you go lucid you lurch closer to the line between asleep and awake, and if you aren't sleeping deep enough some sensations from your body can get through into the dream.

I've had, on going lucid, extreme heaviness of limbs, vibrations, and my vision blurring/getting tunnel vision. If that was your first lucid, likely you were shocked enough to get too close to being "awake" and then just couldn't pull back.

If it happens again, do your best to ignore it and focus on something in the dream. You just have to let your brain know that the dream > being awake lol.

Getting too excited is never a good thing for keeping the dreams going. ^^

Wrong thread? I'm confused.

That's the same feeling I felt on my 2nd lucid dream! I was talking hanging out with my crush which never happens in real life so I'm like "THIS IS A DREAM!" Then, I got that feeling just like you and I woke up! :(

I believe that you felt sleep paralysis in your dream. Sleep paralysis is what happens every night when you go to sleep to prevent you from acting out your dreams in your waking body. I've heard of it happening to other people, and it's probably from you getting too excited and being too aware of your real body like TriGoon. Like he said, focus on something in the dream. Notice how real it all looks, and don't try to remind yourself that you're really in bed. According to your conscious, you're really in your dream body, in the dream world, so focus on that.
