Hypnagogic Imagery & Sound

I have seen this for most of my life and it has somewhat intensified with age.

I would like to know what others experience because it happens to me EVERY SINGLE NIGHT without fail for at least the last 10-15 years. It doesn't mean I fall into dream, but I see it nonetheless. And it can start quickly or take a few minutes to an hour to come on. I feel 100% conscious when it happens.

I usually see waves of color, but usually dim in the darkness, and frequently there is a sine wave-like flow to the intensity of the color and value. For the most part it is not bright, but there are always trails left behind and it will brighten at times and then get darker again. Sometimes a single bright dot will appear and then vanish, I call them brain pixels. :D

When I see these colors, they always sweep past at angles, never perfect 90º. The waves frequently curve randomly in large sweeps, but fluidly and only once, recently, did they appear in a vivid spiral motion.

I usually do not see images of recognizable shapes or objects. On occasion I have seen strange faces, or during this it peel open briefly into an image or I will just start dreaming. usually as the imagery intensifies I see more complex shapes fade in and fade out amidst the colors, but nothing too solid and identifiable.

I frequently feel "heavier" when this happens, and paralysis often sets in, but not uncontrollable paralysis. I can easily move if I choose to, but I don't because it feels comfortable, weightless, or interestingly numb and I'm busy enjoying the light show :cheeky:

I have felt intense vibrations before which were somewhat frightening and made me jump. I read that can happen when people are on the verge of astral projection. It was a sudden, intense, high-frequency vibration that seemed to be in my entire body.

I also have started hearing audio during this period, almost every night now, and even if I'm falling asleep at any time and don't see the imagery I hear the sounds. I hear voices whispering to me that come in waves and brief snippets that rise in volume and then usually cut off. the way they come in always sounds like when you hear sound played in reverse and they are always addressing me by name or indirectly. it is not like I'm hearing a conversation, the words are directed toward me.

Anyway, just thought I'd share because no one else I know can relate to these experiences.

I've noticed them as well for years

Mine vary between blackness with very light blue blotches, to the equivelent of "seeing stars"... colored spots. Also squiggles of light at times

I don't hear sounds. I have a fan that is constantly running and I notice when it fades out. I thought I heard a yell from the opposite end of the house one or twice, but don't pay attention really

This happens to me all the time. For the most part I get purple blobs that float past my field of vision and blur into lumps kind of like watching a lava lamp. Sometimes I see detailed faces of random people that I don't know. One time this detailed face of a man popped into my head and I heard, "Please help my daughter". That was the first and only time I've ever experienced anything like that and I still don't know what to make of it. It kind of creeped me out. I get the voices too when I'm on the verge of sleep paralysis.

I was seeing purple blobs the other night for the first time. Very vivid purple blobs with detailed fractal like edges. Wasn't the normal waves, although the blobs were breaking through the waves and expanding before dematerializing. I wish I could record what I see :)

What do you think those sounds are/come from? Recently heard an opinion that they are messages from extraterrestrials

There are varying opinions. Some would say they are from our subconscious, others might say extra-rerrestrials (as you pointed out), and others will say it is unseen beings/spirits that are speaking to us. Personally, if something was trying to give me a message it would seem more realistic for it to do it in a manner where I could understand it more clearly. That being said, I am also open minded and won't refute any claim since I have no idea why it happens.
