Advice for Odd occurrences

I understand i'm new, the "new threads" wouldn't be much help opposed to ones who have been pushing this experience for a while now. I bought a book. "Lucid dream in 30 days." (good piece by the way.) I'm on day three right now. Last night I read a bit further. Last night (night of day 2) I almost went lucid. I was in a hallway and I turned on the light to see a distorted out of place photograph on the wall, but just my luck my phone's vibration woke me up. Now aside from that I have a couple of problems I was hoping for some insight on.

1.So last night. I had a weird paradox, I'm pretty sure that it's because i'm putting to much pressure (subconsciously) on myself to remember my dreams and write them in my dream journal. Anyway. The paradox was a dream in which I was writing in my Journal just to wake up and find it empty. (Agree with my theory?)

2.Another problem I had on day one and two was that I keep waking up. I had probably 10 different dreams last night only two (the journal (I think I had it more than once) and the distorted photograph.) that I could remember. On night 1 I could only remember 1 out of several dreams.

My theory to number 2 is that I realized I was dreaming and woke up, but i'm not sure if that's accurate because I can't remember them. And due to my experience of this study my dreams aren't very vivid. (I put Celestial Seasoning - Tension Tamer herbal tea on my grocery list to test tonight.)

So my real question is has anybody had trouble in countless waking up throughout the night too? If so do you know the cause? If you didn't do you think you know the cause? Thank You.

Whatever you put a lot of focus into in your waking life makes its way into your dreams. If you're always thinking about dreams and journalling, you're going to end up dreaming about it. It really pisses me off when I start dreaming about work, that's the worst. :(

You're probably right about having 10 different dreams in a night. Most people do. But every time you wake up after one and go back to sleep (to dream some more), the last dream is basically wiped from your memory. If possible, just scribble down some quick details of your dream in a notepad beside your bed to remind you in the morning. That way you don't lose much and get maximum recall. Even a couple of bullet points with key words is enough. It'll jog your memory in the morning and you'll be able to fill in the blanks of what you left out.

JD is completely correct. Whatever builds up in your daily life will reflect into your dreaming life. For example: I've had this dentist appointment ahead of me for a long time now and I've been constantly putting it off. It's something that's been bothering me and I've been worrying about (paying for it, actually getting the procedure done-wisdom teeth removal-, and so on) and eventually that can work it's way into my dreams.

That's why it's good to just relax during the day but always keep lucid dreaming/reality checks near your thoughts. Eventually, if for no other reason than a build up of ideas, they will make their way into your dreams.

Thank you for the input, but what do you think is the reason for waking up through out the night? It only happened recently when I started learning about lucid dreaming.

No idea! Maybe being more aware in general has led to you noticing the periods in-between dreams more than usual, causing you to wake up. Just a guess!

Hmmm that's weird. This whole topic is fascinating. I'm putting my phone on silent tonight haha. After what happened grrrr.

I think you normally "awoke" the same amount of times as you do now.

Your sleep consists out of several stages some deep sleep stages and some almost awake stages. In my theory when you used to have a dream and woke up after it you just didn't care and slept on, causing you to not remember that you had awoken at all. But now that you do care about those dreams you want to remember them and write them down, which makes you aware of waking up, and so it seems like you wake up a lot more then you normally did, but you actually don't.

I like that theory, but i'm pretty positive that I never woke up in the middle of the night. I think my subconscious could be causing it, such as my dream journal dreams.
