Is this considered lucid?

Last night I had a dream where someone told me I was dreaming instead of me realizing it. I had barely any control over my dream self though. When they told me I was dreaming the first thing that came to mind was "wait, what? no! this isn't a dream...maybe I can try flying" I can't quite remember what happened, But I did end up flying then I crashed into the ground and was laying there saying the lucidity was going away. The dream was very unclear and non vivid. Would that be considered lucid even though I didn't have control? I feel almost like I dreamed of being lucid. One other question, How can I make my dreams more vivid? (Non lucid) I believe I'd be capable of having a lot more lucid dreams if my recall was more vivid. I can remember at least 4 sometimes more dreams a night, But they're just hazy and stuff like that.

Being lucid and having good dream control are two different things--you can have one, or the other, or both at the same time. So you can certainly be lucid without being able to control anything. I would say that if you didn't realize you were lucid, then it wasn't a lucid dream, but I would definitely say it was what Patricia Garfield would call a "cooperative" dream--one that shows you're heading in the right direction.

Keeping a dream journal faithfully and making brief notes after waking up from dreams during the night will help your recall, and consciously noticing sense impressions when you're awake may carry over into your dreams--being aware of what you are seeing, hearing, smelling, etc.

I am thinking that just the fact of knowing that you are dreaming makes it a lucid dream.

Like LWA said, being lucid and having control are two different things. Just knowing that you're dreaming makes it a lucid dream, you have to work on getting good dream control from there on.

As long as you knew you were dreaming, it was a lucid dream. Sometimes that knowledge can fade quickly.

Well drinking apple juice before sleeping increases dream vivdness for me regardless of whether it is lucid or not. For instance 2 nights ago I only remembered 1 blurry dream, last night after drinking apple juice I had 5-6 clear vivd dreams
