Coworker said easy to get Lucid just by looking at hands:But how if you can't be concious

I started talking to my coworker asked him if he ever remembers his dreams. He said yes and he said that he has gotten lucid. I was surprised cause i thought not many people are into dreaming. but he does meditation so maybe he learned about lucid dreaming long time ago( he's in 50's)

Anyway i toldhim i have trouble getting lucid. i haven't yet gotten lucid. i'm just working on dream recall and gotten better but i can't get lucid yet cause i don't notice i'm dreaming. The dream just passes like a movie and i watch it.

My coworker said "it's easy just look at your hands". But for me it's not easy.
When will i be able to notice that i'm dreaming. I've been practicing dreamrecall 1month + already.

My nightly practice is writing in my journal "I will remember to recognize that i'm dreaming" and "i remember my dreams" and "i have interesting and memoraable dreams".

I also practice reality checks during the day, and i mediate when i close my eyes when i go to sleep. But so far i've been dreaming alot but can't recognize that i'm dreaming

any tips? What else can i do?
I'm not in a rush though. But just asking^^ i sitll enjoy remembering dreams and writing in my journal. it's greart

It's different for everyone — your question is like asking how long a piece of string is — but it took me 4 months to get my first lucid dream.

You needn't write anything like that in your dream journal. Your dream journal is supposed to be a log of the dreams you have and remember. However, making your last conscious thought something along the lines of 'My dreams will be vivid and lucid' can help. You can increase the chances of that being your last conscious thought by repeating it, in your head, as a mantra, until you fall asleep.

Reality checks are all well and good, as they help you prove to yourself that you're dreaming, but you need to work on your awareness. There's no way you're going to perform a reality check unless you're aware enough to realise you're dreaming.

One thing I like, to train awareness, is to write out a list of things to look out for in your day to day life. These things can be something like black cats, a certain model of car in a certain colour, someone wearing a certain colour tie, etc. The idea is that once you notice one of the things that are on your list, you perform a reality check. This will train you to keep your mind open and aware for signs that you might be dreaming.

If your coworker finds it so easy, he may have been dream chasing for a long time or he may be a natural lucid dreamer — there are people out there who have lucid dreams from a very young age, and believe everyone else does until they're told otherwise.
