Dry spell, then woah...
So I took a break from lucid dreaming for about 3 months or so due to frustration from a huge dry spell and a busy schedule. Now, recently, my DILDs have sky-rocketed in frequency. I mean, I am getting 2-3 each night with no effort. It doesn't make any sense to me why this is happening. I figured might as well get back on my DJ and the DV forums while this thing lasts, hahaha. :)
Anything like this happen to anyone else? Like where you try your hardest to get lucid for a long time and get nothing, then you cut it out cold turkey and get them so effortlessly?

Definately not me.....but 3 months break is a long time. Here's what I think happened...you got tired of trying to LD so you focused onto real life like anyone does and that could have created an opportunity for the mind to 'convert' what you did in the past into dream material. I have found out something about this, it seems that I dream about things that are over like my old job or people I no longer contact...or things in my room that are no longer ongoing like I changed the light in my room but it's still the old light in the dream. I do have LDs but rarely but when I do have them the RCs or activity that caused the LD are not from the present it's from many weeks before like the light switch RC or doing some activity in the LD that I already gave up practising in real life...so yeah there's a connection to the past expereince as compared to ongoing habits that I think is less likely to enter dreams.

I've spent the last few months focusing on becoming lucid (with moderate success) but I switched priorities and spent the last two or three weeks trying to prompt myself (via mantras) to dream about something specific (with plenty of success) instead of attaining lucidity. Just a few nights ago though, I had a series of LDs and 2 WILDS with startling clarity. I wasn't even focused on becoming lucid. During these lucids, I managed to try out a few new (new to me at least) RC's like breathing through my plugged nose (absolutely the weirdest experience I've ever had in a dream) and a handful of things I was never able to do before like fly and summon people.
EDIT: Is it possible to become desensitized to a mantra by repeating it too often? eg. "I will become lucid tonight"?
