I don't know how the brain usually transitions, but I know that when listening to binaural beats it has the capability to make the transition in a matter of just a few minutes.
And how does one know if he/she is in a certain state without the use of an EEG?
I don't think most people can tell when the brainwaves change or sync up.
I had a CES device for awhile and could feel the exact and distinct moment when the brain finally syncs up perfectly with the particular state. It's a very interesting feeling...when you get your brain synced up with a certain frequency...and then change that frequency to something else. I could feel the distinct difference in the frequency of the music and the frequency of neural oscillations, and could feel the brain altering its own frequency one cell at a time like a tingly electric wave. You can train yourself to be able to feel such changes in brain waves. I was sort of skeptical about binaural beats, but now I know that at least some of them have worked for me.
Hmm, interesting. Are there any particular qualities present in the ones that have worked which are absent in the ones that haven't?
I tried them before and noticed that the frequency and tempo continuously changed. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to become habituated beforehand, however.
You know that's a good question, I never thought to sit down and test out all my mp3s to see how well each worked, and I really don't have very many anyways. I did notice that I have an iphone app that seems to work really well and possibly more quickly than some of my mp3s that I've just randomly downloaded. It's called "Brain Wave", and I'm not sure why it works better. Possibly because it is customizable and lets you control the level of intensity and other settings.
