Sorry but I'm not that much into psychology, nor many people are, though there are some students and scientist on that subject around this site. I'd like to know this to though.

You're brain can be measured with the electrical currents present on the top of the cerebral cortex with a machine called an EEG (electroencephalogram). These measurements are in terms of brain wave frequency or hertz, meaning cycles per second. The highest brainwave state is Gamma, measuring around 30-100hz. The most common waking state is that of Beta which measures typically 12-30hz. This is also a common brainwave frequency during dreams. Brainwaves present in states of relaxation or focus are usually Alpha waves with 8-12hz. Typically during dreamless sleep we produce a large amount of Theta waves which are slow brainwaves from 4-7hz. Stage 4 sleep which is the deepest stage during the sleep cylce allows the brain to produce massive slow brainwaves called Delta waves which are 4 and under.

If anyone cares to elaborate on or correct any of this please do, I'm just a high-school psychology student so I might be leaving stuff out.

As for which brainwaves work best for autosuggestion, that'd be a very interesting study to do. My guess would be alpha or theta, which are commonly associated with meditation and hypnosis. I really have no clue though.

Ha yeah, I got into lucid dreaming and a lot of psychology before this year, and I'm taking a year long AP Psych course. I wish we had spent more time on consciousness though. It's still cool.

Hypno-therapists focus on delivering suggestions whilst the brain is producing Alpha waves. So, attempt to put your brain into that state.

      Want to know how?

      Easy. Watch TV

This has been officially documented by Mulholland, a psycho-physiologist.

I just finished a degree in Psychology, and for those interested in consciousness and the like: choose Cognitive Psychology.
