Australian Fire's (possible) method of having hours of lucidity!

Hello everyone
This is my possible method of having lucids that last what feels like hours. And i will need you guys help to see if it works.

In the tutorials section it says that as you realize you are dreaming, stabilize for a few moments, well i beleive to have long lasting lucids you should be stabelizing every second. The way you do it is simple, do your usual stabilization after that you decide you want to fly, procede to do that, but feel the wind in your hair, notice any smells tha are present, observe the surrounding landscape, you decide to land and you want to kill a zombie hord, as you summon that wepon, feel the texture of the hand grip, the force of the recoil from the shooting, the concrete under your feet etc etc.

the main idea is keep 100% awarness of every sense, don't lose track of any. As the dream becomes longer and longer, Remeber what you have already done in that dream. Using this technique you should be able to have lucids that felt like they have gone for hours. Anyone want to help test this?

Well, this sounds it will work without a doubt. The only hard part is to always be aware of your surroundings with all 5 senses.

well you can give taste a miss, i mean you can't always be licking or eating everything, but try to use it when possible

In my dreams, I'm constantly checking my own weight and stuff around me, yet they don't last hours. From self experience I would say it doesn't works, but that might be just me <.<

Right now, I can't do it, I can barely remember my dreams at all. Next time I get a LD, I'll try it.

It seems to work for me, i have only done it once though, i havn't had a lucid since. Anyone else want to help to test it with me?

It will certainly make your lucids longer but you will still wake up after the REM period was over so they will still be an hour or two long at most, that is, without dialating time. I think it would still be great to not have to wory about destabilizing but it would only work well if you could learn to do it while still being to do other stuff in the dream.

I think it may be a possible time dialation method, if your dream is constantly stable, then you can't realy wake up without an outside stimulas

Well you wont wake up but the dream will end. Thats just my hypothesis though I'm interested to see what constant stabilization could do.

I've been meaning to try this too, hopefully I will remember it in my next lucid =)

To help prolong lucidity I do some constant RCs which help me to remain focused. I pay close attention to my breathing and blinking while awake or sleeping and when I LD I do not breathe or blink because I realize these things are no longer required. When I speak my mouth never opens. I also like to shapeshift and holding a certain form helps to stay lucid.

I'll help test it. it looks like it would make dreams more realistic, too! :)

yes this is a great way to keep them stable. only thing is keeping focussed as always. feeling the air/wind on your skin is always a good one as you can do it pretty much anywhere. once you can keep it up you should be able to be really focussed in real life. perhaps holding something in your hand would remind you to keep restabilising through touch

You're assuming that there aren't any diminishing returns on sense awareness as it pertains to dream stability. Unfortunately, in my experience there's huge diminishing returns, and this method could probably only add a few minutes to a lucid. A better technique is called 'chaining', which is where you let the dream collapse, and then do a quick WILD (specifically a DEILD) and try to return to the same dream scene. DEILD chaining works quite well, but it also experiences diminishing returns. However, in my experience, you can extend dream length by possibly 20-30 minutes using chaining. Now, the downside of chaining is that it seems to make remembering the previous 'links' in the chain more difficult every time you add another segment.

What?

DEILD-chaining and staying in the dream are two completely different things. I agree with what you said about letting the dream destabilize and get ready to WILD back, it's a good method. It doesn't make the second chain more stable though, in my experience.

Besides, a few minutes sounds kind of good to me. Most of my lucids are under 5 minutes anyway. This technique has of course been posted several times already :P and is used by me and many other people.

DEILD chaining can be used to re-enter the same dream, and it does reset the stability clock to some extent. Certainly better than trying to stay in the same dream, seeing as though that can't actually work. This isn't Inception...

Did it ever extend the dream by more than a minute or two? Like I said, diminishing returns. Meaning, it works well for small time extensions, but it's useless for longer extensions.

Perhaps you'd like to try it and time your lucid with a watch or clock (a real one :P) ? Obviously, you'd have to WILD to be able to time it. Maybe do several dreams with and without the sense technique?

Yes, actually, I've been very interested in dream time extension lately, but studies have gotten in the way.

I believe everyone is different so dream time extension is different for everyone. For some may be shorter, some hours longer, and some not at all.

Just becacause you did it and had a longer dream dosn't mean it works. There are lots of factors and reasons it could be longer. Still I'm sure it helps. About DEILD its great when I really need to get something done I find it makes my next dream less and less stable sometimes.

It's a known fact that activating your senses will make you stay in the dream longer. It's funny how people argue against this.

Cmind, that sounds good, and i've been trying DEILD. what would be awesome is to do BOTH! that would add 20-30 minutes PLUS 5 or 6 more! :)

Listen to what im saying. It will certinly make your dream stabilize but there is more to how long your dream lasts than good stabilizing. If your stable you will probably have a really long dream but I don't think you will stay in the dream for any longer than your REM period lasts.

i have heard alot of people talk about how dream time: real time is constant to each other, but i tend to disagree, haven't we all had those dreams that feel like they have gone for hours, when logically it could have only gone for at max 90mins (citation needed)? so my belief is if you are always stabilizing and remembering what you have done in the dream will increase "dream time"

i have however come across a problem though-remaining aware. while reading this comment, try to feel, listen to, smell and observe everything around you, now try to keep doing that for the next 10 mins. It is nigh impossible, a lot of training/discipline is required. Good luck

yeah, i tried this last night. i kinda forgot to keep doing it. but i did do it once in the dream. i still think this would help. i'm gonna keep trying it, and let you know if it works when i can do this for at least most of a dream.

Dream time is normaly about the same as waking life time, Stephan LaBerge proved that, but sometimes dreams can have dialated time. I have had the dream that last hours too and I am still in the process of making my own time dialatation technique. Thats why I have been saying stabilization alone will take you to a limit but good stabilization and awarness + a solid time dialation technique would mean you could have almost as long of a lucid as you want.

Time is relative in the dream state. it is possible to live years in a dream while in reality only a couple of minutes passed by. although that is a little extreme. and who the heck is Steven Labege?

lol thats exactly what I am saying gosh why don't people read more carefuly! Or maby I am not typing very clearly. :P Time is relative but it is normaly about the same as in waking life. I am still not sure if the calims that you can live life times in a single dream is real but I really want to find out. And Stepen Laberge is the guy who scientificly proved that lucid dreaming is real and did a lot to advance what we know about lucid dreams. He also wrote Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming which is like the bible of lucid dreaming. :P

I also used to experiment with increasing the length of an LD including a technique that messes with time. This technique is kind of hard to put into words at the moment.. it's sort of like everything is sped up greatly but then I jump into and can experience the sped up environment on the same level making everything move more or less normal speed from my sped up perspective if that makes any sense. I can tell that both myself and the environment around me are sped up but since I am synched up with the environment everything seems to progress fairly normally. When using this technique the area outside of what I have warped appears to be moving extremely slow. It took a LOT of work to get this down but I have managed to stay in dreams for what seems like very long periods of time because of this.

Another trick I have used to make the most of the time given in a dream is splitting myself. If there are 2 of me and both of me can sense and interact with the dream separately then I can effectively experience twice as much as I would be able to experience in the same amount of time as a single person. Splitting into more than 2 beings (not just a clone that you can control but a separate body with it's own senses) will also increase the amount of information you can perceive in a limited time but the more you split yourself the harder it is to process all of the information and remain focused. It is extremely hard to maintain at first but with a LOT of practice can become easier and more like second-nature. Your split selves can interact with each other in the dream or go their separate ways which basically results in being able to experience multiple lucid dreams simultaneously.

For a long while I used to have a series of dreams in which whenever I would sleep It would seem like I would go off and train for months at a time. After waking up and then going back to bed later the dream would simple pick up around where I left off. By lucid dreaming every night those months added up pretty fast and I started to feel like I was in the dreaming world much more than the real world. At the time I was much less social and didn't care too much about the real world. Sometimes I thought about what would happen if I worked towards leaving reality behind completely and dreaming forever but I never attempted to work towards such a goal and doubt that it would even be possible unless I somehow ended up in a coma or something.

Also, this is starting to get more complex and difficult to understand but if you are able to progress with splitting yourself to the point you can have separate dreams going on at the same time. With a bit of planning there is another technique I have used which can greatly increase the amount of perceived time spent in an LD. If you split a desired LD into a series of dreams you can experience multiple parts of the series at the same time yet somehow(not sure how to put into words) you can perceive them as happening one after the other.

Picture you are reading a book and starting at the beginning of every single chapter. You read all of the chapters at the exact same time but have your brain sort out the chapters so that it makes sense as if you read the book from the beginning to end. This with a lot of practice will allow you to have a much longer LD in a short amount of time. If in your dream you would only have enough time to experience 1 chapter you can instead experience as many chapters are you are able to maintain splits for and sort out in the same amount of time.

I'm going to give this a try.. I'm not really that good at lucid dreaming yet, but I think I've gotten the hang of it. Teehee.
