Can the subconscious hint that you're dreaming?

I'm pretty sure most LDers frequently dream about LDing, thinking about it or conversing about it with a DC. (I've heard them called 'layer 0' lucid dreams).

It seems likely to me that dreams tend to involve LD content after thinking about LDing the previous day for the same reason they would tend to involve carnival content the night after going to a carnival.

But I've heard it implied that some of these dreams can be explained differently, that the cause is actually the subconscious trying to induce an LD, giving you 'hints' that you're dreaming.

This explanation seems to make sense in some cases, but I have a hard time accepting it, because it doesn't seem the subconscious would be so sneaky and isolated from the conscious mind, like they're separate people trying to communicate to one another. Do you think it's likely that this really happens?

I have heard of people who have "trained" their mind to do it. And i have heard of others asking for their dream guide to make them lucid. I am not sure on how effective it is.

i had a dream once, there was a knock at the door' i opened the door to see a man, he started to talk to me about dreams and reality! then eventually asked me how do u know if ur not dreaming right now? well that was all i needed :)

I was in a strange-looking building and I exclaimed this to my dad, who was standing beside me. He said, "that's because you're dreaming". I didn't pick up on it for a few moments but then I realized I was asleep.

Yes, this happens to me pretty frequently, actually. I read on the forums over and over that so many people believe that their unconscious is trying to prevent them from becoming Lucid. In my case the opposite is true. If I'm focused enough on the intention to become Lucid. My mind will sometimes go through great lengths to force me into Lucidity. Setting up just the right events to make it happen. And on a few occasions coming up with some creative ways to outright tell me. The most common way that my mind will do this though, as people who have followed my journal well know, is to find a way to get me airborne. When I catch enough air I will almost always become Lucid. For example, my mind will set up some situation for me to get thrown from a cliff or something similar. Or catching ridiculous air off some kind of jump. This kind of catching air dream never happens unless I'm actively working to induce a Lucid. So I know it's not just a random thing.

When this happens I always make sure to acknowledge it and thank my mind for helping me out. :)
