Why Lucid Dreaming is Awesome for me as a college student

So, I've begun the ultimate task to learning to become a lucid dreamer. I'm very very new to the subject still. Anyway, I just really wanted to post why I think lucid dreaming is so amazing. I am very fond of the mysterious, infinite nature of dreaming, unrestrained subconscious, so to speak. I guess my point is, though, that while there are so many reasons why I love Lucid dreaming, I think one of the most practical things it has helped in my life is sleeping more! I'm a Junior in college and I've fallen into the bad habit of staying up way too late for way too many nights in a row, even with early classes the next day. I've always told myself to get on a better sleeping schedule, but I've never really concreted one out. It seems like now,I have for the first time a huge motivation to get more sleep. With rem periods getting longer as the night progresses and dreams becoming longer within them, of course I would want to sleep more. I actually go to bed on a regular schedule now. I've been trying to incorporate a WBTB every night/morning and before, I would've never been able to manage it, let alone procure any positive results with the small amount of sleep I used to get.

Sorry for the ranting, I'm just really excited about all this. If something like Lucid Dreaming can impact my practical lifestyle to such a large degree, I'm excited to know how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I am having a very similar experience with my journey into lucid dreaming. I too am in college and have had an absolutely horrid sleep schedule, going to bed at random late times and napping all day.

My attempts at lucid dreaming have greatly improved my sleep schedule, as I find that I am motivated to go to bed early so that I can attempt a WBTB in the early morning without being a zombie the rest of the day.

Now i just need to start having more lucids and I'll be very happy :lol:.

yeah college has got me napping too. and if you cant get to sleep at a reasonable time (or have been drinking too much to LD), you can try to lucid dream during naps. I have LDs more frequently when napping than sleeping at night. I think it is because during a nap you dont have to enter deep sleep before REM, so your brain is still relatively active. its like a WBTB without all the hassle.

I'm going back to school in a few days, and lucid dreaming has had the same effect on me. I feel that going to bed a little earlier and at the same time each night it totally worth it for all then fun and excitement you can have in a lucid dream.

Also in college, Same experience.

My sleep schedule has been, and still is, horrible. I tend to sleep too late and not get enough sleep until the weekend, at which time I somehow wake up at about noon and screw my sleep schedule up all over again.

Even now, I need to be asleep in 8 minutes if I want to get 8 hours of sleep, but here I am addicted to dreamviews.

Last night, though, I did get very nearly 8 hours of sleep, and my sleeping schedule this week has so far been okay. This has been the case for the same reason you describe. I need more sleep to remember more dreams, and to get better at lucid dreaming. I don't know why this motivates me to actually force myself to sleep earlier. Was the knowledge that not getting enough sleep will ruin my entire tomorrow not enough? I fear the effects of a lack of sleep much more than I fear lacking dream quality, yet for some reason, the latter makes me force myself to sleep earlier while the former only makes me worry but still procrastinate in sleeping.

Yea I'm a junior in college too, but I don't have classes on tuesdays and thursdays, so I get plenty of sleep. I think lucid dreaming is easy for me in college because I have more free time and days that I can sleep in.

I have early classes nearly every day- earlier than I like getting up! They're only for an hour or two though, so an early-afternoon WILD is always an option, it's great.

I completely agree with ya. My sleep schedule has probably never been better. I'm also still kinda new but I did recently have my first LD and it has me wanting more.
(Even though in that LD I barely managed to step outside my own house, lol.)

I agree completely. I am also a college student. ( Freshman :D ) and last semester I would be up till 2 in the morning doing nothing
productive at all. But now that I am into Lucid Dreaming I usually have a nap around 3 or 5 ish and usually get to bed by 8 or 9. I
really think that Lucid Dreaming has provided a motive for me to get more sleep and consequently is having a positive effect on my
school work :). How's that for the parents? :P

I also agree! Byut remember even with a good sleep schedual it still takes effort to atain lucid dreams on a regular basis.

Lucid dreaming is definitely remarkable, when you have your first lucid you will shit bricks.

I only get 6 to 5 hours of sleep, but I really should get more sleep for the sake of dreaming and health
