Question about calming down when getting lucid.

So like the title says how should I calm down when I become lucid.

I have attained my past 2 lucid dreams by WBTB in about 1 month time period. Both times when I became lucid I almost immediately woke up. It felt like I just didnt have the time to react to the lucid dreams anyhow. The second lucid dream which I had last night, I felt this weird excitement rush coming and I tried to start breathing calmly but It was too late. Almost at the same time when I was about start breathing calmly I woke up..... The other LD which I had some weeks ago didnt last even that long that I could have somehow felt something, because at that dream I immediately woke up, no chances on calming down.

So I was wondering could it be because, usually when I think about getting lucid I start to analyze what kind of dream stabilization method should I use when I become lucid. And when I become lucid I immediately start to think about those methods and wake up?

Or could it just be because I havent yet become familiar with lucid dreaming and usually there are long periods of time when I dont see any LD's so when I see one I just simply get too excited????

Its pretty frustrating that when I become lucid I cant do anything to stop from waking up. But I'll try to have a lucid dream tonight and just try to be like "Oh Im lucid, nothing new. I'll just calm down." So hope it helps?!....

Sounds like you already have the right idea. The more LDs you have, the less of a rush there will be. Just be careful not to start expecting to wake up. Because then you will. Just do what you are doing- breathe calmly and rub your hands or reach out and touch and look closely at something nearby.

Also, if you wake up you can always remain perfectly still and visualize the dream you just left. It isn't too hard to get back in. Most of my LDs involve several of these short awakenings.

you can also try to just focus on something other than remaining calm. When in my few lucids when i realize im dreaming i get excited tell myself real quick i have to be calm and immediatley just start walking around exploring my surroundings and thinking of things to do. idk i think its just cuz its your first couple lucids, mine have never been too long either
