Sleep Paraylsysi: Awareness shift

I am wondering how exactly the awareness shifts, I remember when I was so tired, I kept counting to like a 100, but unfortunately all I got was nothing, I heard repeating your name, and when your attention goes to other things, to keep repeating the number/name/etc. Like I had stuff pop in my head that was totally random, and then I was like, how the hell did that come in my head? My question basically is, how do you feel right before this state, Emotionally, Physically, etc

Also I sleep on my side with on leg straight and another leg like a v

Your awareness doesnt really shift. but the stuff that popped into your head was probably early HI ( Hypnagogic Imagery )
You are generally quite the same consciously as you enter sleep paralysis. Your body undergoes some weird shit though :P

I'd say you were in early hypnagogic stage. Just be patient and let it come.
Remember, your body does this every night. It knows what it's doing, you're just along for the ride :)

Also try not to think about it to hard. Just lay back and relax. If your thinking about SP then you can't go to sleep and if you can't go to sleep, then you can't wild.

So I have a question, I go to sleep at in the morning around 5 Amish, what time should I wake up to do a WILD?

If you go to sleep at 5am then maybe an hour before you wake up.

I'd say first, you should probably start going to sleep earlier. WILD is much easier with a healthy sleep cycle.

There is nothing unhealthy about going to sleep at 5am as long as it is consistent and he/she is getting 8 or so hours of sleep. However, it is always easier to do anything sleep related when it is dark and cool, so make sure your room is nice and dark (and if possible slightly on the colder side, as long as your blankets keep you warm).

I have heard multiple times that you should wake up 5-6 hours after falling asleep as that is when you have longer REM cycles. Whether this is any better than waking up an hour before normal wakeup I cannot say. I would think 5-6 hours would be better as you would have more tries, if nothing else, but that is just opinion.

No, I been trying, I had some Hypno... what ever you call it images.

Does anyone wanna answer before I go to sleep?

after waking up from sleep right before or during REM cycle i don't think it matters how long your awake for, as long as your not too tired that youll just fall back asleep and also as long as your not too awake that you can't fall back asleep (while still conscious ofcourse) at all. Ive read around 30-60 minutes people would stay awake for. but its really what works for you. Im kind of in the same boat as you, im having trouble succeeding in a WILD. Furthest ive got was HI but that eventually goes away and nothing happens so i just go to sleep. maybe i just have to wait longer

Yes I have, and I have had considerable research and experience working with WILDS. I may
not have succeeded yet but I know quite a bit on the subject. You should probably stop questioning
people's experience ( I just came from your "Why is someone with no DEILDs... " post )

It's more questioning what you didn't experience which is what I'm trying to do. I've read many posts on this board where people give advice in areas in which they have yet to go themselves. As for me being an ass, while this is true, I'd rather you didn't stir up a conflict.

I usually stay up for about 1 - 2 minutes depending on how tired I am because if I stay up to long, then I can't get back to sleep.

So a doctor who tries to help you with the trauma you gained when both your parents died in a car accident requires him to have lost both his parents in a car accident? Sounds like an awful job.

Doctors meet high standards to obtain their degrees, however there are no standards for who can or cannot give advice on experiences they have yet to have on this forum. This is why it would be much easier for me to take a doctor's advice. In the case you described, the doctor who's parents did both die would be more qualified to help that patient, yes.

I've hit sleep paralysis so this point is moot. I would prefer that you don't question my experience, as I
don't tend to make a habit of trolling forums.

Which they obtain through research and information. There may not be standards on this forum but
the concept is the same and I assure you I'm not going to post something unless I have multiple sources
and / or experience on its validity.

Hm, just as a note, it didn't even sound at all like he was attacking you in my opinion. Sure, questioning your validity, but not a personal attack. However, your response obviously shows that you are defensive which in itself pretty much confirms one of two things: 1) You are hypersensitive and don't know how to deal with opinions that differ from your own, or 2) You pretend you know what you are talking about but really haven't nearly as much experience as you think you do. Take your pick, I lean towards the second, or both.

As for the original question. I have experienced the same thing as you, with the random thoughts and whatnot multiple times. I have never really succeeded with a WILD (Well I did once, but long ago and don't remember it well). I have had varying levels of success, however, there was one time where I was groggy and ready to fall asleep, counting my breaths, when I sorta "snapped" into a whole different awareness where my brain was crystal clear. Don't know if this was part of sleep paralysis or what, but it has happened a few times. So that could be the "shift" people are talking about, I don't know. I have also made it to where I would hear sounds (usually like someone calling my name, which usually makes me jump, and I lose any relaxation I had. :P ) without ever feeling this "shift."

Anyway, just some personal experiences, perhaps someone else can sort it and see if it is accurate to what this "shift" is.

You questioned your experience, not me (which is a good thing). I only asked if you've experienced sleep paralysis before. From what I can tell the question was absent of doubt.

I'm not going to debate you on what you experienced because we both know that's annoying. As I stated above, the question was if you experienced sleep paralysis or not and the answer was yes. That's all I needed really, I don't have a reason not to trust you.

I agree we should just drop it. This thread is about helping typedef with Sleep Paralysis. I understand
