Serious ideas... get more out of your dreaming

at first it is nice to explore your fantasies. Fly, kill, fuck and what not but after a while you may realize that you can get much more out of your dreams...

I saw this posted already but ask your dreamscape/subconscious to show you something important to you. You may be very surprised.

During my last lucid dream i sat in a room and asked every part of me to come walk through the door. There were at least two dozen variations of myself that came walking through the door. One was a geeky, another athletic, and so on. I saw one with a cigarette in his hand and I kindly asked him to kill himself. I wanted to let go of that part of me. Since, I have not had an urge to smoke.

During another recent dream, as i became lucid i noticed a DC in a shadow. I could see their outline but not make out what he/she looked like. I asked the DC to show himself and an upset child walked out from the shadow. I asked what he represented and after a little convincing, he said that he was a repressed memory from my childhood. I had a long conversation convincing him that what happened is long gone and that me as a whole wanted to move on and forget about it. Before walking away from the child he became very happy and started playing with some other DC children that had suddenly arrived.

One last one... I had a terribly difficult engineering problem to work through recently and did not make too much headway in a few days of focusing on it. The next time I became lucid I summoned a group of the greatest minds in history, headed by einstein himself. Together we collaborated and worked though the problem out on a chalkboard. I studied the board and forced myself to wake up. I thankfully remembered the steps to the problem upon waking and quickly jotted them down.

I strongly encourage everyone to talk to their DC's. Some are very robotic only capable of simple conversation and ideas. However others seem more intelligent than my conscious self.

I often tell DC's that they aren't real and that they are only a figment of my imagination. Some DC's tell me that they are quite real and others say that they aren't sure that I am real. This has got me thinking recently... Are some DC's part of a collective consciousness? Do me and other lucid dreamers share DC's? Are archetypes real?

my bad. i didnt really know I was going to talk about that when i started but it has been on my mind constantly lately. I should mention this on Beyond Dreaming but who in fact coming up with the answers to the engineering problem. Me, you, or in fact all of us together?

Oh and i almost forgot! i am very excited about this..

My present lucid goal is to ask my dreamscape/subconscious an important date for myself in the future.

will it be my marriage, the birth of a child, my death? Or will it have no significance at all? Will i make something significant happen on that day or is it predestined?

To be honest with you, i am starting to think that it already happened so in fact there is no way of changing it

Hm, talking falls down fantasy category depending on the person. I prefer to do chemistry experiments and studying while going at adventuring, seems funnier, more interactive and worth a lot to me.

Well... since it is happening inside your head, you are really talking to yourself in a fancy way. Or at least, that is how I understand it, as I think all the astral stuff, connections to other people, and anything of the like is bogus.

It makes sense really, you are in a state that is almost completely ignoring the outside world, so this gives your brain so much more power to focus on mental things. Summoning great minds is expected to lead to better results than you naturally would have come up with, so your brain plays the part of those characters based on your knowledge of them.

(This may sound sorta creepy to some) I talk to myself (That is, a created second personality) allot throughout the day. It helps me remember tasks, recall information for classes, creating vivid memories I wish to recall later, and pass the time when bored with nothing to do. This "second" personality is like a whole different being in my head. I can have a conversation without putting noticeable conscious thought into it's responses, and yet, it often brings up points and issues to a discussion I would not have otherwise come up with (I have often ended a conversation thinking, "Wow, I never would have thought of that!" only to realize, this "other person" was in fact myself in the first place).

Now, if my brain can do that while I am awake while walking to class, why couldn't it do something like that on an extreme level when asleep where your brain is debatably as active as when you are awake, albeit without the distraction of physical input?

Anyway, these are my two cents on the subject. I certainly want to try things like this, and in fact I have a specific goal involving something like this I have been aiming to try with my next lucid (Sadly, lucidity is avoiding me). Something specific I also want to try is to change certain personal traits and desires by altering relating objects in the dream state.

The part about different sides of yourself sounds like quantum jumping to me. The idea that we have numerous different personalities -or turnouts of our lifes-. I've heard of opening a door, asking for the side if yourself that can solve the problem you need, asking them for the answer, then leaving. I personally think that this is a form of witchcraft since god has all knowledge and the answer isn't found inside yourself. Look up Burt Goldman.

this is def an interesting subject and the part about summoning some of the greatest minds in history i think is just still your own subconcious maybe picking at parts of your brain you don't use. You know how they say we only use 10 or 15% of our brains power in our everyday life. Well maybe when you dream and search for answers in your dream your using more than the 15% of your brain power.

Lucid dreams are, as LaBerge puts is the state "in which the concious and unconcious minds meet face to face". Not only does this allow for increased creativity and problem solving, but lucid dreams definately have therapudic potential as well.

I agree with the suggestion that some DC's are shared (while some are definitely part of yourself). Sometimes categorizing every person in a dream as a simple DC is not correct. Because the dreaming plane operates without the same rules as our waking life, its easy for people to call these strange instances of being with Einstein, etc as just a dream. Sometimes we must re-define the word dream, however. I believe that you probably did sit down with those great thinkers, because an "illusion" of the different planes is time: the dream plane does not use the same linear timeline. (In my opinion, at least ;) )

As a note towards, DayDreamer, that is a myth that has been broken. College psychology class. Though apparently people still aren't removing this myth from the "true facts" list and the idea is still floating around. Just a heads up, it isn't true.

i agree and believe in what you say but only thing is how do you maintain lucidity, i notice when you pay attention to anyone thing it will blur out or turn wierd or even wake up.

how do you maintain lucidity?

were you fully lucid or just semi?
