Hi just wondering if this technique is worth the effort to those that have tried it?
Did you have your first LD after using this technique? Willing to try it if I get some good feedback :)

YES! WBTB is the single best thing for lucid dreaming! It doesn't matter whether you are doing DILDs or WILDs WBTB is extremely beneficial. It won't guarantee success, but it will help immensely. It doesn't have to be much either. If you can't afford to lose sleep you can simply set an alarm, wake up use the restroom and get a small drink of water, if you need it, then go back to bed with the intention of lucid dreaming. When you first go to bed it takes hours to get into a good REM period. So by the time you reach REM you have completely forgotten about lucid dreaming. If you WBTB you will hit REM MUCH faster, and be much more likely to remember your intention of having a lucid dream.
I am planning to try this soon, prob over the weekend and i will let you know how it goes. I have never intentionally done this before but believe that it may work for me.
From personal (but limited) experience, I have only ever reached lucidity through WBTB, so I'd definitely say give it a go and see what you make of it for yourself, you've got little to lose, right? :)
Good luck and kind regards

Thanks for the quick replys guys! Sounds like I shall be trying it tonight. Any tips on how to put the intention of lucid dreaming into my head before I go back to bed? I'm a poet and I don't know it :cheeky:
MILD is the technique for that. You can use a mantra. Use visualization of what you will do in a lucid dream. Or simply think of lucid dreaming as you go to sleep. Whatever you think would work best for you. The main thing is to have lucid dreaming be the last thing you think of before drifting off to sleep.
Tried it last night, turned the t.v on though to see how NZ was doing in the cricket (which we won :)) anyway It wasn't a very good idea aswhen I went back to bed it was on my mind.
Didn't lucid dream but had a dream about cricket haha, so it must work.
Just a tip, if you don't want to set an alarm you can just drink a lot of water before going to sleep so that you wake up naturally to go to the bathroom. Every time i've tried the WBTB technique i've been successful. It's basically like a WILD except you speed the whole process way up since you're already dead tired. It's like directly inducting yourself into the dream.
It's incredibly easy to have a lucid dream when you WBTB!! I would do it much more often if I had the time.
What I used to do in the summer was wake up at 6, do something physical (not required), then go to bed around 2-3 hours after I woke up with the intention of lucid dreaming. Mantras are extremely effective with WBTB as well. You should be genuinely tired for the 'nap' though! Good luck to you!
Oh and please post your mantras, mine doesn't seem to flow off the tongue very well. "The next time I dream I will do a reality check and become lucid"
Yeah I'm only up for probably 2 minutes. I don't see why you'd have to stay awake for a 20 minutes, unless you timed it to coincide with your sleep cycle or something. I don't really pay attention to that though. As long as I can stay conscious while falling asleep I can either directly enter the dream, or sometimes I have to go through hypnotic imagery before I get there.
Ahh I see you use WILD, I find that really hard to do, was trying last night after my WBTB pretty sure I was lying there for a good 20 mins or so .. could feel my body starting to SP but nothing really happened and I started to get uncomfortable so just rolled over.
You should also try to make a breathing exercise. I hear it works well. When you start telling yourself your "mantra" or what ever you decide to think to yourself do it in a beat that flows with your breathing exercise. This is what I do. "I" breath in a little, "Am" breathe om a little more, then "dream" breathe out a little, then "ing" breathe out a little, then rinse and repeat. So every breath you should have a word attached.
Soon (about 5 - 6 minutes) you'll be doing it with out even thinking, so you'll be able to let your mind wander with this little thought in your head saying "I am dreaming".
Could you feel tingles all over your body? If you think you are close to SP, but can't completely transition try rolling your eyes and slightly crossing them. Like you're trying to look at a spot in between your eyebrows. I made a thread on it here. Hoping it will work for others!Quote:

And for my mantra. I normally change it up; I don't use one sentence over and over. I use "I will have a lucid dream" "My subconscious will present me with many dream signs" "I will recognize the dream" etc etc. Whatever pops into my head at the time that relates to lucids.
