Friends not wanting to LD

I tell my friends about LD expecting them to be super excited that something like this is actually possible. But no, it's too much work... :eek: The work is clearly worth the results. The reason I feel so strongly about it is because you can do ANYTHING you can imagine. Personally I would work 10 years of practicing without having a LD if by the end of it I could have them at will. It feels like a *dream* to know that something like this exists. How could anyone not want to experience this? ill have to accept it -_-

Know anyone similar who doesn't want to even TRY? what's there reasoning.

Yeah I feel you. I've told friends about LDing and they're not too interested in it for whatever reason. Some have said it wouldn't be that great because dreams are so blurry and everything and you can't remember them anyways. After telling them that they can be potentially as vivid as waking life, they don't believe me. Oh well, their loss...

Just tell them all you have to do is keep a dream journal and they can start remembering dreams every night. and from their its easy!

wierd... when i found out it was like a dream come true. but then again when some people have shit recall to the point where they feel they dont dream, i guess its understandable. usually i keep it to myself, because many people find it wierd. one of my friends brought it up (didnt even know he knew about it) and it didnt catch the conversation. it was litterally," i should learn to fly in my dreams, ill have to get lucid eventually." (someone else)" oh flyings cool i guess."

I have something to share on this topic. i've heared about LD from my brother. me and him both talked to my mother, and she finds it a rather bad idea. she studied psychology and pointed out that in dreams our mind solves problems from our lives in a diffrent way than in actual reality. we usualy don't even remember the dream, but it usualy helps us in RL a lot! she says we (me and my brother) should not enter our dreams and play with them. as fun as the idea might sound, she claims that solving problems in life might get harder trough time, and we might not see things as clearly as we would if we would have left the mind have a dream about it.
(sorry for any grammar failours, aint the best at it. love the forum tho, and my mom sure aint stopping me from learning to WILD ~ i am having a very hard time recalling my dreams tho. i tried to WILD today, was asleep for about an hour, the phone rang and woke me up. i didn't remmember a single thing and realy bit my toung hard. hurts like hell now... )

Thats so strange. I told my friends about it too. They were like: "oh, cool". And that's where their interest has ended :) They did not show any more interest in it, even when I told them about my first LD.

Hysteric, That could be true, but since we have something like 5 or 4 sleep cycle...having one of them for fun isn't that bad. Plus, even if you wanted more than one per night, you can learn and solve problems with your subconscience. You are there with your dream characters(like the personification from your subconscience, I guess), you can ask them to help you! It's even better, since you'll remember them easily :D BTW welcome to DreamViews, feel at home ;)

well, my friends liked the idea, but they didn't thought it would be worth the effort too. And I discovered that my best friend already has some LDs sometimes Oo

All of my friends and my family don't want to try it because they are to busy during their day to practice. I wanted to smack them when they said that.

For some reason I get the feeling that, if LDing were something you had to pay money for, and you'd LD nightly as soon as you paid, it would be a lot more popular.

Exactly. People are (excuse the language) to damn lazy and impatient.

if it were easily available for money, id still learn the hard way. theres just something about training your mind to do something cool that other people are cheating on, and i would always have it when they had to rely on some machine and pay money. most people are lazy and impatient, but they wont get the rewards. its the people who are willing to dedicate some time to something that get the cool stuff like lucid dreams.

It's something you just have to accept. I wouldn't exactly force someone to be interested in something. It's their loss if they're not interested. It does take time, patience and effort, especially with recall and awareness. People place different values on different things. We just happen to place value on lucid dreaming and the experiences it can offer. The best we can do is introduce it to people who we believe could appreciate something like this, and if they don't, then just let it go.

Trying to "force" someone to like it or practice it will probably be an almost guaranteed failure for them to go through with it. I didn't exactly get results for weeks and weeks when I first started, so if a person originally was against it, the time it takes for results may just confirm their initial suspicions that it isn't worth it (in their opinion).

Don't take their lack of interest personally. Just be happy that you're doing your best to grow in a new way. They'll hopefully find their own path of personal growth. :)

I had no idea, but most of my friends ask me how I do it. I didn't know they were interested at all :)

They like me better for telling them how I do it reliably I think lol

I know, everyone that I know that tries or doesn't try to have an LD (with instructions given by me) say that its too much work. My brother says "ya know, I would do lucid dreaming but I just don't want to do all of this crap to have a fuckin' dream" word by word thats what he said. I just don't get it. If you keep practicing you'll get to the point where its just something you do without thinking.

I think it is an "you had to be there" experiance. Kind of like telling friends about this great cruise you went on , or a really cool ride at Disneyworld. They just don't "get it". I tried telling my best friend about lucid dreaming and gave her some books, however she doen't think it's real and I can't understand how someone could go through their whole life not consciencly being aware in one single dream. I know it is frustrating because it is so cool and has practical application to life. I think it could be used in counciling. However friends just look at me like I am talking about using drugs or something, they don't get it and frankly I think it freaks them out if they don't get it. Just be patient, not all people are aware as much as we are.

My friends actually tried to tell me about lucid dreaming a couple years ago. They didn't actually have lucids though, they were just excited of the concept of it. I didn't show much interest at the time I don't know why. But since then I rediscovered it and started actually having them, now one of my friends is starting to try, a little. He's had 2 lucids over the past few months, although neither of them were intended, he doesn't do RCs, or a MILD mantra, but he does keep a DJ. I'm hoping he will actually start to improve so we can learn from each other. We're also really competitive so hopefully we can get to the point where we can try to out do each other in dream control, length, or duration. I'm sure friendly competition would take my lucids to the next level.

Somebody had the ignorance to tell me lucid dreaming was dangerous once. Funnily enough, it was my ex. What a stupid bitch (sorry for language, but she really can be at times)

After a while of trying, I got my friend to start trying it. (Although he doesn´t keep a DJ or do RCs.) I have the feeling, that if people would find out about LDing by themselfs they would be more interested than if I told them. Don´t know why, though. Maybe the best way to tell someone about LDing is to tell them to search "lucid dreaming" with google or something

Whenever I bring up the subject of lucid dreaming (or anything related to dreaming) people just seem to ignore me. Yesterday I asked a friend if he knew about lucid dreaming and he literally just ignored me. I don't know if it was because he was listening to music so I asked again and he acted as if he didin't even hear me. I was like "Oh, whathever, it's his loss.".
And today I was talking to a friend on the phone and he asked what I was doing. I then told him I was reading about dream cartography and he called me gay. I asked a reason for it being gay and he told me that no women where interested in this. Some times people can be really stupid...
However I did manage to get some people into lucid dreaming. I got my brother into it and he got some friends. I also got one of my friends into LDing, and I also got the girl I like into lucid dreaming...hehe.
It seens some people don't find the possibility of doing anything you can imagine to be interesting. But well, what can we do...

My friend says she would be "addicted" to it and want to sleep all the time. She also used the reason of "its too much work"
I was like "how is it too much work??? You roll a dice 3x times to see if you get snake eyes 3x times" It is pretty simple!!! You do it 6 times a day or so....
Then i get told "it wouldn't work for me" well, no duh it wont work if you dont TRY... that is half of getting a lucid dream, is SAYING you will have one to yourself....

Lots of my friends I feel are on a lower level of awareness overall, and they're just too preoccupied to seriously consider anything that's not mainstream. I used to tell them all about the cool stuff I was reading, like Buddhist philosophy, and Tao Te Ching, (and the current topic of LDs of course), but they hardly show interest in it; sort of like "Oh, that's cool... so at work my boss blah blah..." Oh well.

I think we all want someone we know to be into lucid dreaming, because sharing your experiences with someone who is actually interested makes it better. It's in our nature to want to share something important to us with others. But sometimes we can't, so we settle for a group or community where you could always find it; The Internet. Funny, that we're all here now ;)

I've never known anyone interested in lucid dreaming until about one month ago. I was at a party and some people started talking about lucid dreams and discussing whether they really existed or if it was but "paranormal bullshit". When I came out as a LDer another boy said he had already had one or two LDs and we managed to get the other ones rather interested. Some even said they would try WBTB to see if they could do it.

My boyfriend however is as indifferent to lucid dreaming as can be. I know it's a good thing to keep your feet on the ground, but sometimes it seems to me like he's rather got his feet stuck in concrete and is afraid of experiencing new things.
He used to say he doesn't dream but about once a month and then it's a very realistic dream. But ever since we got to know each other I told him about my dreams (which are mostly absurd, surreal and bizarre) and not much time went by until he started remembering his dreams more often (he'd say he started dreaming more often) and the dreams got more and more surreal. Then he grumped about it all being my fault and how he disliked those new dreams :D

But I still wonder: Is it possible to influence a person's dreaming frequency/intensity/surreality by talking about your own dreams to them?
