Is this even possible?
I am so focused about LDing that something strange happened to me. Yesterday I went to bed and fell asleep fast. Than I realised I am sleeping (not dreaming). I guess it was non dreaming period. Maybe NonREM.
I realised I am sleeping in my bed and that I am not dreaming. I felt very strange, I wasnt in my body for sure and I wasn't awake. I thought that I should wait for my dream, but nothing happened for like 2 - 3 minutes. Fear of like "being trapped" in something took over me and I decided to countinue my normal sleeping.
So. Is it possible to understand, that you are sleeping and not dreaming?

Sounds like a touch of sleep paralassis - or something very like it.
It often causes a sense of fear or paranoia accompanied by hallucinations (for example, your belief that you were asleep) and a feeling of disconnectedness.

Yes, you don't dream straight away. Or at least very non vivid dreams. Sleep Stages
Usually when I realise I am asleep straight away after falling asleep (although I realise I am dreaming too because I am more experiences than you probably) I have very low-light dreams. Like I can barely see anything. Probably the same thing happened to you. Check that link I put there, it has info about dream stages. You won't have vivid dreams until at least an hour after falling asleep if I remember correctly. They also get more vivid as the night progresses.
For most people, the dream will barely be recognisable. Just faint outlines.
