"Déjà vu" Possible Theory

Ok so i have been thinking on this for some time now and have come up with a possible theory of Déjà vu. Here it goes.

Well we live in a 3 dimensional world. Our body's can only perceive 3 dimensions. But some scientists say that there may be a unlimited amount of dimensions around us all with different laws of physics, time and space. Meaning that right this very second where you are sitting on your computer you could be in the middle of a ocean, or a busy street, or on a cliff, In a different dimension.

Also the same goes for dimensions and parallel universes. There is a possibility that there are a unlimited amount of dimensions and parallel universes around us this very second, some may be in the past of our time, future, or present. But we may have a twin in those universes and or dimensions.

So the average adult human uses 4-6% of our brain, what if when we are asleep we unconsciously some how use a different part of our brain we don't know how to while conscious and we can tap into our other selves and see the future and parts of our past through their eyes? I think Déjà vu cant be merely a coincidence it happens too often and to too many people.

Open for ideas and speculations, let me know what you think? =)

Interesting theory I"ve thought for sometime now that when I dream I am picking up where I left off. In other words I'm viewing the life of my other self objectively. Yes I choose to move left and right in the dream when I'm non lucid but I tend to easily accept things that my logic would question. So I feel like I'm watching the average day in life of the other side of me maybe that's why I'm so accepting of a foreign environment. The only proof of duality I have is when I lucid dream and become so detached that I see me and another person doing something. Like third person perception.

Am I the only person that's never had a deja vu moment before ever?

It's interesting, I'll say, but there's a lot more to it than that. While there are said to be other dimensions, it's impossible to prove that there are four, five, six, etc. dimensions while in a three-dimensional world, just as it would be impossible for someone or something in a two-dimensional world to prove that there are three dimensions. So, I haven't exactly bought into the whole idea of more than three dimensions until there is concrete evidence, which there won't be in our lifetimes, as we're in three dimensions.
The idea of parallel universes is an interesting one, but again, I don't buy into it. The idea of other universes, however, is very plausible. But I don't believe that our minds connect with others when we sleep.

To sum it up, I don't really agree with your theory. I think Déjà vu is simply some kind of confabulation of the mind--it seems real, and you can swear all day that it happened, but in the end, it didn't.

Also, shouldn't this be in a different forum section? This isn't really about lucid dreaming...

Well heres an example of Déjà vu. When i was watching a movie in the theater on the premier night i had this happen, just to be sure when i got home i went and looked up all the previews and the section of the movie that i remembered wasn't on them. How else could my mind have saw that same thing before when the only people that saw it before me were those on the set? Also i think our minds are all linked through some kind of "human connection" but thats another topic for a later time.

I've had similar things happen--movies that I swear that I've seen before but had just come out in theaters, songs that I swear I've heard but had just come out on CD, etc. As I said before, I view these as confabulations/false memories. It's impossible to say how they came about really. Maybe I view Déjà vu like this because it's easier to explain that way and requires less thinking. Or maybe because it just makes sense to me. I used to have Déjà vu all the time when I was younger, so I always sought an explanation for it, and the false memory explanation that I proposed earlier seems easiest to accept. There's less involved in the theory than something as advanced and involved as yours. *shrug*

Interesting theory, but I personally disagree. Not to say it's not true, because I seem to has Deja vu differently than most. I have more of a Deja vu-foresight type thing. I feel like I've seen, not necessarily done whatever I just experienced, but I feel I have seen it out of a dream...which just makes me think that it's another trick of our mind.

I agree with tigerstar186. That's the kind of deja vu I get. After it happens, I can recall the rest of the dream that had the deja vu moment. I don't know what it is but it's an interesting phenomenon.

I get some pretty intense déjà vu sometimes, lasting almost 10 seconds. I experience three different types: when I feel like I've been in the situation before and can predict what is going to happen, feeling like I've seen something MORE THAN once before, and like tigerstar186: witnessing things from dreams. Déjà vu is very fun and interesting. Anyway, it's difficult to decide whether we can browse alternate dimensions and times of our life. Even if we think we have (iin our dreams) there isn't a way to verify them. Whatever experience we undergo, through dreams or otherwise, however and wherever, I think what truly matters is how we respond to them; in order to positively advance our lives.

Deja vu occurs when what your seeing takes the path into your memories before you register it in your conscious mind. Its a very small split second glitch in the brain.

I'm glitchy.

I must ask, where does this statistic come from?, Its always something that pops up but I never know why they say thats the case :).

In regards to the theory, I think thats an interesting take on the subject and would be really awesome if anyone managed to find a way to tap into their other self :)

This stuff is pretty interesting. Dreamed I was riding in a bus through a neighborhood and there was construction work. 3 weeks later, neighborhood, bus, construction work. It was crazy.

Time isn't even a real thing, it was created as a measure by human kind, if there was no humans there would be no measure of time.

From what I've heard, the statistic is about 9% of our brain. I don't know if that figure is correct or not, but I know that scientists have equipment that can measure neural activity in the brain. So I'm guessing they took a control group of like 100 or 1,000 people and found an average of 5-10%.

I have, on average, 2 deja vu experiences per day and every time I have one, it feels like I've experienced the same thing in a dream. And sometimes I actually remember something happening in a dream ages ago, not just the feeling of it being in a dream.

Hmm, I am just curious as to why then damage to even a small area of the brain, for example a stroke can have such devastating effects if we don't use 90% of it. By all means I hope that statistic is true :P as It opens up a lot of possiblitys, but I just hear the statistic dismissed a lot :P

I've experienced deja vu only a handful of times in my life, but the feeling was so strong that it's hard to just blow it off as some "glitch" in the brain. Mostly my experiences came in the form of over-hearing a conversation between two people, and knowing in advance what each of them was going to say. Also I've had the whole knowing a song even though it was new and I had never actually heard it before. Very unnerving.

I don't know what deja vu is, but it certainly is something I would love to learn more about.

However, it is for the mundane things, such as walking about or shopping. So my theory is that we plan bits of what we're going to do the next day whilst dreaming and, when we do experience deja vu, it is because we have dreamt of it and our sub-conscious is recognizing the moment.

That's not true. Animals and non-living things experience the effects of time just as much as we do. Yes, we invented methods of MEASURING time, but that doesn't change its existence.

Humans only use 10% of brain is a myth.

Like I said, a little googling and you can find out that it is most likely a glitch in the brain. What you see is being picked up by the memory split second before it registers. Of course it is a strong feeling, it is a misfire of the brain it is a false memory, a glitch. If it were a real memory people would not have issues "Putting a finger" on why they know the place, because they would eventually explore their memory and find it, but its not there, its a glitch. nothing supernatural, nothing precognitive, sorry to break it to some of you.

For me i don't have trouble "putting a finger on it" because when it happens i know where its coming from for me. I know it was in a dream.

And i notice you said "you can find out that it is most likely a glitch in the brain" well that "most likely" part can always change as we learn new things about humankind and learn new things in science everyday. There are millions of possibilities, but the one i stated just makes the most sense to me. Or should i say seems "most likely"
