Running on all fours
I frequently have dreams that I'm running. Not running away from anything or toward anything, just running. I was a fitness runner for a few years about 15 years ago, and often ran at night. Most of my running dreams take place at night too.
Often, when I'm running in my dreams, my feet won't make contact with the ground enough to go very fast, and sometimes I bounce really high up into the air with each step instead of being propelled forward very fast. I find myself leaning forward as I try to get more traction and eventually reach down and pull myself along with my arms (front paws?), which helps me gain speed. Eventually, I'm using my arms only, pulling my self along with slaps at the ground as it passes beneath me.
The sensation reminds me of lying facedown in a swing as a child and using my hands to control the motion of the swing.
Sometimes these dreams lead to outright flying and sometimes not. And sometimes I feel a certain amount of guilt over taking the easy way out by using my arms instead of my legs.
Comments?? Questions??

That is exactly what happens when I run in a dream. Everything from my feet not making enough contact with the ground, to eventually having to crawl. It's as if I were underwater. But now whenever it happens I can usually figure out I'm dreaming, so it's really not too bad.
