How do you end a 'dry spell'?

Okay, i haven't had a lucid dream since April 11, and it's beginning to bug me now. Granted that i haven't been doing quite as many reality checks as i should have, but sometimes i don't need reality checks, it just happens.
Can anyone give any advice on how to break this? I'd really like another lucid dream, just to remember what it feels like!

I'm in the same boat unfortunately Liz. I wish I could just jump over to the other ship that helps you to become lucid every night.

I had a short lucid dream last night (first real 'lucid' dream in ages) only lasted about 15 seconds though

In my opinion and from my experience its difficult to just 'end a dry spell', its like having writers block, unless it happens naturally its hard to change. I’m sure there is a level of will involved if you really focus your attention everyday on reality checks, dream recall, dream signs, techniques etc (something I rarely do). If your fully convinced you want to change your approach to lucidity because its not ‘working’ I would advice reading about it again (like trying to recreate that passion you had for it the first time you heard about lucidity). If I get periods when I don’t lucid dream I usually re-read the main page of Dream Views.

Ive noticed a strange pattern in my journal since January, the consistency of lucid dreams has slowly fallen from once a week to once a month (April-May) it obviously coincides with me giving up reality checks and proved techniques such as HILD and WILD.

I get very lazy and always decide to forget the work involved (lol).

it's got to the point that at the moment, i'm not even thinking of lucid dreaming, i'm just happy with regular dreams, but lately, even my recall is beginning to get fuzzy...i can usually wake up and know instantly what i was dreaming about, but the last day or so i've had to lie there a long time and sort it all out...

Sadly, I too am in a dry spell, and have been for the past... year. Actually, it was probably this day last year that I stopped having lucids.

I used to have lucids all the time for several years, thinking it was nothing special, but I never really gained a lot of control as I didn't know about them. I think the reason I could have them most nights was because before I went to sleep, I wouldn't be tired and would think "How can I go from this awake to being asleep? It's impossible.." and therefore I would be very awake when asleep, so I would notice I was dreaming.

Recently, though, I have been more tired and I can sleep if I want to sleep, which I couldn't before. Upsides and downsides together, I would like to ld again, and currently I'm maybe getting half lucid, but bleh. Maybe I'm just me

Alright, this may seem like crap advice...but it will work eventually.

Just don't worry about trying to have a Lucid Dream...just relax, even for a couple weeks, without trying your ass off for it. I find that when i am on a dry spell, i don't dream too much, and most of the time stress, illness, business or something hinders my dreaming life. Just wait until you can remember all your dreams at night, then crack at it again.

You know, Splash experienced the same thing a week ago. I told her to just relax, maybe try some meditation. My dry spells usually involves lack of LD memory, but they usually only last a week.....the solution: either try meditating, or just be patient & it should eventually end!

You know, I've got kind of a quirky answer for this that seems to work for me. Whenever I am in a dry spell, if I come to the website and talk to someone about it, it will usually break it.

I don't know why, it is almost like some kind of confessional, but I've had this work for me about 5 times now. I will be dry and within a day or two will have one.

      Weird, huh?

Sometimes I can break a plateau by depriving myself of a few hours of sleep one night, and then taking a nap that next afternoon. For me it works almost like a really delayed WILD.

Also, you could do something crazy like sleep in a totally different place. Another bedroom or your couch or something. Man, when I went out of town for a gig, I slept in this guest house for a couple weeks and I had a bunch of LDs. And it was after a dry spell too, come to think of it.

Anyway, good luck cremè of the cremè, hope my 1500th post was of some help to you.

You know, that comment made me think of this book I purchased a long time ago called "The Artist's Way" . It's a guide for creative people who are having a creative block. I never did completely finish the book - however- it is formatted in a modular way (you can read only those chapters you are interested in and in any order).

One of the first parts of breaking the block is to do something called "morning pages" basically it's waking up and taking a few minutes to write down any thoughts that are in your head without stopping to think about what you are writting - free association.

Hmmmmm...... sounds familiar.... like a journal maybe(?). Dream Journal?? There seems to be a connection here....

      OOOH!! I HAVE THIS BOOK!

i don't so much write morning pages, as keep a journal, which i purposely don't read back to myself for weeks on end, and then when i do, i can see the course my life has taken, and what needs sorting, and what to leave alone.
creatively i seem to be fine...in that i've lost my writer's block, but haven't got round to writing again.

and regarding what someone said about recall...last night i remembered everything so i think i might be on my way...
      lets hope so!
