Scared to continue lucid dreaming.

Last week I had a lucid dream about an evil cyborg cow boy that was hunting me and i killed him. Right after that dream I was in a bed staring face to face with the most frightening thing my mind could create, an old hag like zombie witch. Ever since then I have been scared to enter another lucid dream or meditate. I have been trying to get myself into a lucid dream but every time I try to WILD I chicken out, decide to go back to sleep and hope I don't get lucid. What do I do to fix this? I am afraid that I will have another encounter with her.

I did the same thing last night.

Whenever I'm lucid and get scared I think "it's a dream, they can't hurt me" and the adrenaline instantly goes away. I did the same for an old hag and a hopping shoe last night.

One of the beauties/"curses" of lucid dreaming is overcoming fear. Or at the very least, not letting it control your actions. I think that emotions guide us. But we don't have to let them control us or what we do.

Keep trying if you want to. Remember that you are a god in your dreams. Then, when the scary stuff pops up, do what you will to make them go away. Something I have learned is that you can also influence your hypnagogic hallucinations. So even though you are paralyzed, you can fight any evil off "telekinetically." Or see if you can make it disappear. Just because you are paralyzed doesn't mean you have lost ALL control ;)

This is totally true. About a year ago I had a similar experience (creepy zombie hag thingy with me in an embrace) and managed to push it away from me despite total paralysis. I know it can be difficult when crazy stuff like that happens but being afraid will only make it worse. Try to relax and go through the scenario in your head, except picture yourself forcing the thing back with willpower instead of being overpowered by it.

Alternatively you could try to control your fear during the episode, close your eyes, and relax. That tends to work fine for me.

I instantly wind up ported away in cases like this with evil hags.

To the OP - have you tried asking a nightmare character who it is, or if it has a message for you? Or showering it with love and compassion, maybe hugging it rather than fighting or fleeing?

This is supposed to work near miracles. Many people report great success with this technique... apparently it usually reduces the character's size power and aggression and can turn them into a helper.

Just as this approach (compassion rather than antagonism or fear) can work to defuse a real-life confrontation.

I would love to be face to face with the horror of my mind. Remember, you are the master of your mind, that horror cant do anything to you. if she comes back, talk to her, kill her, do what you want, be friends with her, your in control of your dreams, you can stop her! YEAH!!

Even the most gruesome creature that can be imagined can never cause you harm. Why? That creature branched from you - your social interactions, your loves, your fears...

This hag IS you.

That's one of the wonderful things about lucid dreaming. You can confront even the darkest of fears. The only thing that keeps nightmares alive is fear. Face it, and the nightmare will end.

Even after reading this I would still be afraid, if I'm being honest.

I've encountered quite a few scary DCs and nightmarish conditions before. Each time, I act as if I'm the boss, they're the employee, and say something like, "hey, stop messing around and trying to be scary. Remember that I can kick you out of the dream whenever I want.You really don't want to piss me off."

I'm confident, assertive, and have a 'stop being stupid' tone in my voice. Does the job every time, and has even prevented a few full-blown nightmares from occurring.

I have read about this same technique in EWoLD, but I have yet run into a situation where I could try it. If LaBerge adcovates it, it's probably worth a shot OP

That's what scares me the most, Animate inanimate objects. I've had dreams where furniture suddenly comes to life and jumps out at me and some run across the room really fast.

it's all in your mind.

nothing can hurt you.

this is what you shall know.

Just because you had one scary lucid dream doesn't mean that they will all be scary. In fact ever since i have started lucid dreaming i haven't had any nightmares. Scary things will happen in my dreams but it doesn't effect me. Just stay with it. Good luck.

Lucid dreaming shouldn't be scary, it should be a pleasing experience. Next time you are lucid, know you are in control, don't just expect you are. This way you can retain your lucidity.

Next time you see that old hag zombie witch, give her a big ol' hug! :cheeky:

As a kid I used to hallucinate that the toys in my room moved around. Not sure if it was induced by a fever or sleep paralysis, but yeah, moving toy cars are much more terrifying than conventional nightmares...

same with me^^ things i hear or read that frighten other people frighten me too, sometimes.
my mother told me she always sees demons and dead people trying to kill her in sleep paralysis :P

Hearing about other people's more frightening SP/LD/other dream experiences is like a double-edged sword. You might freak out a bit, but you'll also be aware that there's worse things that could happen compared to your own experiences. That alone can prepare you a lot for your next WILD/LD attempt. :)

Now that you've mentioned an "Old Hag zombie witch", I think it's safe to tell you that all of us here in DV experienced that "witch" at some point of our lives. It's natural for us LDers to be terrified in some of point of our dream. But are you just gonna seal the gate to Dream Land just because you saw an ugly whore? When you see this whore again, try to "lighten" up the atmosphere. Try to make a funny conversation with this Hag of yours when you see her again. Like "Hey, aren't you the saleslady I saw yesterday?" or "It would be good if you're wearing yellow instead of black" or anything like that.

Always remember that all the DCs in your dream are You and You are all the DCs in your dreams. DCs are some sort of your "alter-ego". So if a DC is scaring you, that means You are scaring yourself and vice versa
