The taboo topic returns!!!

:| Once again I find lucid dreaming becoming a taboo topic. In cleveland, the major news paper is the Plain Dealer. They Have a whole section in the arts & life section today (01/17/04) about dreaming. While the article is interesting, not once did they bring up the subject of lucid dreaming. These are people who study the subjeect, wouldn't you think they would be interested in LD's. Although they did not bring it up, at least they did not cast it aside along with witchcraft, extaterrestrial, and old wives tales.

Yeah, i think, as you said, the general public is not ready for it.
In a way, it could be 'used for the wrong purposes', and i dont think some people are ready to 'go deeper into the rabbit hole'...

i don't understand why its taboo? i've never heard anyone say that it was a bad thing to lucid dream.

Haha Rtex, you made me laugh when you said that. I mean if some people really think lucid dreaming is evil they need to get thier heads out of thier asses. :) Anyways, since this is the only lucid dreaming forum on the internet and it is growing at this rate I think people are suddenly beginning to accept lucid dreaming. I have talked to many people online that had no idea what it was. They also had no idea you could control dreams. We need an article in yahoo.com oddly enough section. Anyone know someone who writes that stuff? I bet they would do a section on it. Anyways, if the word gets out (with this site) we will grow by thousands in a week.

Some people think its some kind of religious or cult activity...but i'm like NO! its a sort of hobby-at the beggining. (until you dig deeper and find some...interesting stuff :) )

Lucid dreaming? Satanic? The two don't exactly go together, if you ask me.

What exactly could make Lucid Dreaming satanic? Lucid dreaming dosen't exactly require some kind of magic cult worship of the devil with some sacrifice before you go to sleep to have one, does it?

It happens to everybody at some stage in their life, suddenly becoming aware of their dream and controlling it. They might not call it "lucid dreaming", though, even though that's what it really is.

What on earth suddenly made people think that?

Well think of the FIRST time you heard the word 'LUCID'...it sounds kinda creepy and cool to me, some people may interpret that word differently.

Also, when i talk to my girlfriend about it, she is interested, but not enough to try it, she likes 'dreaming' of me, or trying to, but she doesnt have the motivation to try it. Maybe if i make her read EWLD...

Well, I found the E-mail adresses of both the editor of the news paper and the writer off the article. And, in a nice manner, I simply asked them flat out -why people never dicuss lucid dreaming in main stream articles. I have Yet to get a reply.
There are Cultures elsware that are raised with the notion of lucid dreaming. I wish I have had my entire life with the pratice of lucid dreaming. Who Knows were I would be. A lot farther than I am now. Owell. If it were easy anyone could do it.

In the book, 'Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming', LaBerge states that lucid dreaming is actually easier than everyone thinks it really is. He proposes that there is some kind of 'mental block' and people set a higher standard or expectation than they can fulfill by thinking its harder than it really is.

I was discussing lucid dreaming to a few guys at work and one of them said it was wrong doing and evil.
He said lucid is like lucifer.I grinned and said ..get outta here.
Another guy said he was lucid dreaming for years and he was trying to avoid it alltogether.Iasked him why and he said he used to always rape in his lucid dreams.I guess he felt morral issues but I wonder why he couldn,t control it if it upset him?

It is two seperate words! An adjective and a noun. They can't mix in a dictionary as one word. But most search engines have a link to lucid dreaming sites in the top twenty if you search for dreaming or sleep.

Good point. CocoDan. But how in the hell is somebody suppose to find out what Lucid dreaming is. I am not talking about a search engine. You can find anything on those. I mean a hand held in the flesh Dictionary. If you look up dreaming it should give you an explanation or steer you to Lucid which in return should do the same . :mad:

Yes! Only we can spread the word. And we *must* do it, cause if more people will be like us, world will be better :lol:

Well my 2c and personal opinion is this:
By all means spread the word about LD, if I had known there was this much info on it I probably would have been here a long time ago.
May be you're right, the world may be a better place if everyone had a deep experience like this.
Just try not to go over board about it, standing on every street corner demanding ppl give it a go makes it look as crazy as those ppl who denounce it as absolute evil.

Because here's the simple truth:
If they are reasonable ppl who are willing to honestly atempt to expand their minds they might give it a go.
If they dismiss it out right as crap then -
1) No amount of attention to the topic is going to open their razor edge of a narrow mind.
2) They probably don't deserve to occupy such a free and wonderful space as LD.
Leave them in the dark, after all, they can join the party any time they want. But thats a choice best left to them.

Since nobody else teaches us about this great ability we have, it is up to us to spread the word. I know I have told all my friends about it, most of them don't seem to care, but then that is their desicion. I am very glad that I found this site and learned about the power of our mind, and how we can consciously alter our dreams.

I am sure there are many out there that would love to lucid dream, but don't, all because they don't know about it. Let us teach them, if we can get to one person then it will all be worth it....

My friends seem to look at me funny and say something like

"Umm...Ok Bryce..."
and walk off

I get so freaking pissed off, why can't I have open minded friends.

Example:

I lost my password to my school email account and hadn't bothered with it for a few months, and finally got my psw back and when I checked it, someone had forwarded something along these lines throughout the whole school(I just can't remember the exact words)

Noone at my school is open minded...my friends asked my opinon on this, and they stated that they suported it.I told them to leave me out of it.

I also have the friend that is constantly stating "christianity is superior, and Catholics are superior to all others"Whom to I constantly state"Fuck you" :D

From my own personal expiriance I have found that the older people are the less likely they are to listen to what you have to say about LD's. (You can't teach an old dog new tricks) They seem to be more set in their ways. Where as young people are more willing to embrace somthing new.

The readers range from young adults and beyond, the content is mainly science (i guess lucid could b classed as pschological for health purposes) I would take it the readers would be open minded to read the stuff in there and im sure the editor is always seeking material.

That is very true. If everyone of us picked a newspaper or a website and wrote somthing in regards to Lucid dreaming there would be an impact.

I think its just a reflection on how society interacts with events or things that would be considered incomprehensible. I believe alot of people who claim to be truely into dreams doesn't mention LDing because they have never experienced it. For one, they may have tried ways to induce it and wasn't patient enough thinking it was never going to happen thus giving up and thinking its all a hoax. For those who just heard of it, doesn't believe in it because they themselves have not experienced it and believe it is impossible to do. I can understand that. Because I think we are all show me the visual type individuals.

If we all jumped the band wagon and started "spreading the word" about LD's would we not be doing as the cults do seemingly looking for recruits? I don't know...call me selfish but I kinda want to keep the whole experience to myself. Let other's find out for themselve's. After all, what does it benefit me if other's find enjoyment through LD's or not. It won't make mine any better. I know..i know, you can argue that it's theraputic to people. I guess it is cheaper that a psychiatrist.

why is Lucid Dream viewed as taboo in the press? I would say generally speaking people live life mostly 'asleep' even when they are awake. That makes them to be good worker drones for the corporation$. Doing lucid dreaming wakes you up both in dreams and in real life, hell it even makes you question "what is real life"? "is real life just a dream?". The press deems it is not in the best interest of society to have people start questioning the nature of reality or altering accepted world of dreams. Funny how neatly "interpreting dreams" falls inside the context of Freudian psychology; in the end it only dumbs down the dream as a real experience.

if there ever was a gestault event because of mass amounts of people suddenly learning lucid dreaming and experiencing a "human evolution" as a result of it, surely the press/media would label it as a cult or "dangerous phenomenon".

i love to see this website, great positive energy flowing and "no limits" approach to expanding consciousness.

I dunno. To my surprise, when I talk to people about lucid dreaming, quite a bit of them know what I'm talking about, and think of LD as positive.

Im gonna fwd some info about lding and a link to dvs throughout the school.

I know quite a few people who think of lucid dreaming as silly or something that's not worthwhile. Then I know quite a few who are fascinated by lding when they learn of it.

I think if lding is taboo in the press it's because those who know have decided that the topic of lucid dreaming is not marketable. I mean let's face it, the news worries about rating just as much as any show, and if the people who decide things think that lucidity is not worth an extra 30 seconds of airtime then they're probably right. I'm pretty sure lucid dreamers are a minority in the news consumption community.
