I usually go with a nose plug and looking at my hands, also closing my eyes since you can't close your eyes in a dream! Also when do you do them? Randomly, when you walk through a door, every time you see your dog, etc?

I also do the nose plug one as well, it is a good one.
When?
I just remember to do them once an hour, or sometimes I write RC on my hand and do one whenever I see that.
Hah! I was using my dog for a while, or just dogs in general. Also monkeys, statues or figurines, the house I used to live in, and family and friends. I think I need to narrow it down a bit - too much to remember!
My favorites are noseplug and fingerpalm. Also just looking around and thnking critically.
I wouldn't count on not being able to close your eyes in a dream. It's how many people choose to wake up from a lucid, or how many people do it accidentally... also used sometimes to teleport to a new dream scene. So you definitely CAN close your eyes in a dream!!

When I close my eyes in a dream, it's like my eyelids aren't there so I still see and when that happens in a dream it's a great giveaway :D
I can close my eyes in my dream fine :P but it tends to wake a lot of people up if you blink a lot in the dream.
That might happen sometimes, but I wouldn't count on it happening every time. I've had blackouts in dreams where everything just went totally dark, and blind periods... if that can happen, then closing your dream eyes can blot out your vision just like in real life.

When: When the mood strikes me. I don't RC often because I don't really try to lucid dream. But sometimes I actually think that I am dreaming because of how amazing or unbelievable a situation is.
Favourite: Counting fingers
When: Any time I think about LDing - involves when something weird happens, when I guess things correctly, see people I haven't in a long time, hear someone say something completely off topic etc. It's a very easy and stable way of RCing and you can get away with it in public easily without people thinking your crazy :D
I also like the nose plug RC though, and it's always my second RC.
Favorite: Jumping out of windows and trying to fly.
When: Whenever I get the chance! =D
Favorites: counting fingers, double-checking numbers, poking a finger through my palm
When: whenever I remember to do it, which is at least several times a day

I do them when I see certain people I know who show up a lot in my dreams, and when something strange happens if I remember. I'm kind of bad at remembering to be aware or do them at certain times though so I just do them whenever I think of it. Or when it says to in someone's sig :p
I do them pretty much at random, whenever I think of it. My favorite is plugging my nose. The sensations when you can breathe through it and when you can't are so very different, and being able to breathe through a pinched-shut nose just feels so cool. :)
