Not Fully Asleep, But Also Lucid Dreaming?

I've always wondered about this phase, but so far I haven't read any information on it online. Might be quite hard to explain it, but bear with me.

Has anyone had an experience in where they could still feel their real body after falling asleep, AND lucid dreaming?

It's happened to me in several occasions, but I'm quite skeptical about it, since I've read no accounts of it before. Once, it happened while I fell asleep during Science class, felt the vibrations, but no full on SP, but I did see a blurry, but fully formed dream, and I was able to control it easier than any dream had ever been. Lasted only for a few seconds, since the teacher was discussing something. But the thing was, I was still aware of my body in the real world, my head on the desk, my eyelids constantly shifting.

Last week, as a part of the IODSP project, I had a similar experience, this one lasting longer, and SP kicking in the middle of the dream...

I see Shadow drive around again, laughing as he talked. That was about the time I felt SP kick in, but I think I forced it to. The hypnagogic hallucinations I was seeing was the clearest I have ever seen it. It was like looking through a kaleidoscope of random images, only clearer, and more vivid. I remember seeing an eye, then an owl.

this is hypnagogia. cool isn't it? it's basically sleep onset (stage one sleep). some researchers argue however that covert REM sleep is the cause of the visions in stage one. in any case, it's a great time to be lucid. but as you said, it's different. you can feel your body, and may still feel awake mentally but you are seeing visions with your eyes closed. some people wake up and have hypnagogic hallucinations (HH) with their eyes open. HH is often linked with sleep paralysis but can come on its own. it's closer to trance than dreams, and is the state of mind that Carl Jung worked with in his "active imagination." today, the shamanic dreamworker Robert Moss teaches how to use this state of mind for journeys.

That's happened to me before too; I get those half-asleep dreams a lot, but they've been sort of lucid a few times as well. It's never lasted longer than a couple seconds and wasn't very clear, but I think I know what you mean. I didn't consider them to be real LDs, and mine have almost seemed more like daydreams, but your second one sounds more dreamlike...I dunno.

edit: is that really HH? I didn't think of that. I never really thought of it as being interactive, if you know what I mean.

I also thought it was HH at first.. But I never knew that these illusions could be so, vivid, and have a life of its own. I thought it only consisted of random images, or colours, that was why I deduced the possibility.. Also, I never knew it was possible for it to be induced without SP. O.o
