How exactly does the wake back to bed method work? On weekends I tried this and attempted a WILD. The last 4 times I tried this I fell asleep, but I had a somewhat fuzzy lucid dream afterwards 2 out of the four times.
I never really heard the term WBTB until recently, but it is a method I've employed for years. My understanding of it is very simple. If you are awake for a short period of time in the morning (like being woken by an alarm clock but then shutting it off and going back to sleep) when you fall back asleep you should enter pretty much immediatley back into dream mode. Rather than taking the long time it normally takes for you to enter a dream from when you first go to bed (the initial stages of sleep do not include dreams), it should be much easier to recognize a dream for what it is after just being conscious moments ago.
I have never heard or read anyone else's definition of WBTB, but this is how I understand it.

WBTB is simply a technique that makes it easier to become conscious in the dream, since the dream occurs very soon after nodding off again. Consciousness is fresh in the mind, and lucid dreaming realisation becomes easier.
You can combine it with WILD, or MILD, or just use it as a boost for DILD techniques (dream signs + reality checks)
I tend to do the latter ;)

BTW, the trick to a good WBTB is to get the timing right. It varies a little from person to person, but generally staying awake for about 15 or 20 minutes has been shown to be optimal. If you can't get back to sleep after that, then reduce. If you pass out completely, then lengthen the time :)
It's also possible to play around with the activity you do in that time. Eg. reading, quick PC game, etc. Just don't get too wrapped up in it and stay up too long. :mrgreen:
My problem is - who the hell wants to get up for 20 minutes after 5 or 6 hours sleep :P
It's not a very convenient boost for lucid dreams that's for sure. But it works well.
