I was thinking about this recently while trying to explain the concept of lucidity to a friend. My opinion is that while we dream (for example, of eating a strawberry), our mind consults our bodies for references. It remembers “Hmm, a strawberry tastes like this,” and thus, we taste a strawberry in our dreams.
