My friend kicked me in the balls.

Metaphorically. I introduced him to lucid dreaming about a week ago, and he only writes a little down on his notepad each night, he has only had like 2 dreams so far, he does a few reality checks, he doesn't wake up in the night (not even by alarm) so no WBTB.

And yet 4 days in, he's had a lucid. A decent one as well, for a first one. He was in a shop with one of his other friends, looking up some material he needs for a project. He then suddenly went "this isn't right", looked at his hands, etc, etc. He then couldn't think of anything to do, so he decked my friend, ran out of the shop and noob mistake, got to excited, and lost it after about 30seconds of lucidity.

I interrogated him about what he did, and he said he went to bed at 12, and fell asleep fairly fast, but before he went to bed he ate 4 slices of cheese and drank an orange capri sun (or a juice box for people who don't know what that is.)

Now I've been at this for 6 months now, and I have only had 1 that was even close to a lucid, and that was worse.

TL;DR Friend has lucid dream in few days while it's taken me 5 months to have one. What do?

Thanks, but I'm not a noob. I have read all of that stuff and tried it too. That's the thing, he has barely done anything and had one in a week, I have done almost everything and it took me 5 months to have a 3 second one. He never used to dream before I told him about this, so I doubt very much he is natural.

People are different. I have always been able to remember at least something from my dreams each night, yet when I started it took me just over a year to have my first lucid dream. My friend, who never cared about dreams had a lucid within a few weeks after I VERY briefly introduced him to the idea (I didn't even mention any techniques, just that it is gaining consciousness in a dream).

Some people can have them really early on, some people can't. Just keep trying.

You said you are familiar with the techniques and things, so you probably have heard this, but remember some of these things:
      1. As state, go to bed around the same time each night. A consistent schedule works wonders.
      2. Be keeping a dream journal WITH ENTHUSIASM. If it becomes a chore, it won't help much in regards to dream recall.
      3. Don't forget to check for new dream signs and keep them on the FOREMOST of your thoughts.
      4. Make sure to eat right, not eating correctly can have adverse effects on recall and awareness.

      I wish you luck.

It's good to hear of someone else who took longer to have a lucid dream. With everyone else on here either being new or having been on here for years, I feel like I really suck at this.

Well I tried MILD seriously for about 3 weeks, then put that on the backburner. Then I tried bits of everything for about a week or 2, then right now I'm doing Puffin's SAT technique and some WBTB which I am fine tuning tonight.

I have found out that lucid dreaming is just as all other skills, some people are pro at the very start, while others (like me) need practice. for example, a while ago I told one of my friend about lucid dreaming and she was like "uh, I'm doing that like every night!" ....she didnt even know it was an "official" thing... I was kinda jealous a while

Just metaphorically. But still, I walked into class this morning and he went "Hey, btw I had a lucid dream last night!". I was firstly, surprised, then curious at what it was, then a spark of jealousy hit me. But then he said it lasted a minute or so and I was quite jealous, but then he wasn't going on about it all day or anything, which was good. Plus I know what he did so I have some hope to try and mimic his success.

He ate 4 slices of cheese before bed, I will do the same, might just work, unless it was super luck or placebo.

Pfft, just continue going at it and you will beat him eventually, it took me 8 years to have 1 induced LD, so if we are technically, you are totally ahead of me in terms of time.

No secret. He has just found a technique that works for him.

Two things I should tell the op.

      1. You need to try a technique for longer then 3 weeks. In my book you need to at least give a technique 3 months before getting good results. You're being really impatient.

      2. Your friend either has great luck. Or is just not over thinking lucid dreaming. Taking things nice and easy and not obsessing is sometimes a great way to get a lucid.

What dakotah said, I'm just a very heavy RCer, used to do my RC all day long, I'm barely at 4 or so hours now... its hard to get back on the habit but oh well, its well worth it.

Yeah, I am following Puffin's SAT guide (I think it's Puffin anyway), and I will follow the advice and do it for a few months, not weeks. It's just you would think that if something doesn't work after a week or two, it won't work at all.

Oh well, I'm also kind of glad that he didn't have one the next night (last night) either, lol. Plus he only has one dream a night where I have at least 4 decent ones. That seems to be the only area I am good at right now.
