What makes you want to comment?

I'm just wondering, what makes you guys want to read and comment on another person's dream journal entries? I want to get my dreams out there, exposed, and have people give me their thoughts on it (as I'm sure is natural for anyone with a dream journal) but I'm not going to sit here and ask for it. I'd rather have people read and be interested enough to comment due to the value of my writing.

So really, its a pretty interesting question: what is it that makes you value another person's dreams enough to want to read and discuss them?

Well there are several reasons:

1.) Title catches my eye
2.) Inspiration for me
3.) I see the person posting a lot, and respect them.
4.) I am friends with that person.

I think there are other factors, such as:
Reputation (Status, well known ect, known for having awesome dreams)
Skilled in lucid dreaming (Prehaps beyond)
Large Dream Journal
;)

B12, I think the main factor is reputation, so you keep motivated, make that dream journal epic, and you'll get comments!

Oh yeah, that too. Puffin keeps her dream organized, and it looks great. That is why I love her dream journal.

Sometimes I'll comment because I've experienced a similar dream or have some insight into something they said, or just because I really liked a particular entry or something.

I like all kind of dreams, so if the first dream catchs my eye, I will read all of the entries and reply with whatever comes to mind first, I'm just dream-obsesed really.

A dream caratcter

Usually, I'll just pick some dreams at random to check out. If the content interests me, or the writing style is compelling to me, I will usually comment. I often tend to put myself in that person's perspective, as well as I can. So if the dream is written in a way that makes that not only easy to do, but interesting enough to keep me wondering what happens next, I will usually show some appreciation for such an interesting read or ask questions about the experience.

I like to read dreams that are in paragraph forum, descriptive, and have been spell-checked. Like others have said, for me it's mostly what the dream is about, whether it has characters in it that interest me, and also whether the person has a reputable, well-structured DJ. This doesn't mean I won't check out anyone else's DJs, though; I'm always looking at newer ones as well. :)

i don't read the DJ's as much as the forums but when i do i usually find other peoples dreams so interesting that i must say something.

They might be fun to read or i might be whoring points like i did yesterday while i was tagging like 10 DJs

but yes, they are fun to read

Are you one of those people who make up dreams to put in your DJ just for points? :>

I scroll through the Dream Journal page which lists the newest entries quite often.
I usually end up reading the ones with a moderately interesting title, that seem structured and / or color coded.

If I find that someone has interesting dreams I often subscribe to their DJ so I can get all the updates per email.
I have to admit that I don't usually comment that often on DJ entries, unless it's someone I'm friends with on DV.
I don't really know why that is though, maybe I should comment more often.

As everyone else has said, rep has alot to do with it, I'm alot more inclined to read someone's dj who's super experienced and had alot of lucids, like puffin and mancon.
Their dj should be kept intresting, and well organised.
The first glance you have should lure you in.

Since I have little experience in reading someones DJ I currently don't care about rep a lot. Might change when I'm here for a bit longer.

The most important factors for me are:
1) Interesting title (as I won't klick on an entry named with the date of creation)
2) At least acceptable writing style
3) Should have to do at least a little with my personal interests

Ugh reputation... seriously? When I started reading Oneironauts Matrix I didn't know him, and its one of the best DJs I have ever read, found awesome pieces on small ones, way better than lots of the big ones. Don't think people should read based on reputation, ain't the like of dreams what ties us together? That and its easy to use search to find dreams on anything, regardless of the author.

i hate when DJs titles are something like 2/7/11, its so stupid

If I've heard a lot about a certain DJ, I'd be more inclined to look it up. That's all it really does for me.

Oneironaut's DJ is awesome!

I'm not commenting a lot on dream journals, but maybe if the title is catchy, and some other things that have already been said. But I think I'm going to keep an eye on your dreams from now on, if that helps! ;)

When I decide to peruse the DJ section I'll start by looking for certain names of people who I know write a good dream journal. As for making new discoveries, I'll start by looking for people I've spoken to or read on the board who seem to write well or have interesting things to say. Then I'll quickly scan their journal - if all the entries are only a brief sentence or two Ill pass right on by, or likewise if they're all massive walls of text.

Next thing I"ll check is comments. If I find a few comments I'll check them - this will often clue you in as to how good a DJ is.

Usually for me to check out someone's DJ I have seen them around the boards and find them interesting and think I can learn from them, or they refer to a dream in a post that sounds like its worth a read, or if someone left me a comment I'll check their journal out. I'll comment someone's journal if I really enjoyed it or if I've had a similar experience or maybe a question about something they did. I don't make many comments though to be honest, sometimes I type it out and my brain says "they don't care what you're about to say!" lol

There are a few people I respect, but sometimes I just like to look through until something catches my eye, whether that's the title or something in the entry itself. If it lures me in and I enjoyed it enough, I usually feel compelled to comment. I like to read entries that I can relate to in some way as well, and sometimes ones that are a bit above me in that the dreamer is more experienced than me (such as in dream control), because it excites me and inspires me to get there myself.

Haven't read anyone's dream journal here for a while actually. I think I'll start doing that again.
